I think you all should send DOT letters and request that you want the same regulations and Canada! Their regulations seem like they would help so many of you out!

They actually look at the 13 hours driving as a 24 hour period, the 16 is in a 24 hour period and your 10 hour break is take 8 in the sleeper, then your 2 hour break, it can be broken up into increments of 30 minutes. So you stop for 30 minutes and take off that is part of your 2 hour period.
Then they have all this other exception and rules etc, I am not knowledgble on just yet, but give me time! l.o.l. It just seems theirs make more sense in some areas! Just a thought get a book on them and study them and see what you think. Would it fit the USA drivers to and help us be "safe" and less logging illegal? You drivers can stand up and give your opinions to the right people! Don't just grip to us log auditors or other drivers, send a letter. Now if you get them changed, yeah I will be frustrated cause I have to learn new regs and TRAIN over 2,000 drivers "AGAIN" But if you are happy I am "usually" happy!

If Canada and USA could get on the same regs it would sure make everyone's life allot easier!

Anyone that drives in USA and Canada regs are changing in Canada on 1-1-07, so be ready, but you do have 6 months to adjust! USA only gives 3 months! :toothy3:

I definately agree that they should get on the same page between Canada and the U.S.A. I didnt catch it in your post but they also made the 34 hour reset different!! Here they say we have to have 36 consecutive off in order to reset the 70.... I swear they do it just to different!!!
    It is just getting rediculous....

Now with the 34/36 hour reset, I do not understand why Canada could not say ok we will meet with the USA on this one! They do not understand how difficult it makes it on everyone!

So are you just driving in Canada? Or do you drive in Canada and USA?
I am going to Windsor next week, I am so excited! I wanna go gamble @ the Windsor Casino (I think that is the name) and then maybe go shopping the next morning before heading home! Will I get better deals there versus USA money? Gosh how do I convert? Can you tell I am learning this stuff on the Canadian, although I manage a company in Canada I totally rely on the office personell there in Canada and they do a great job @ it!

BE SAFE WEATHER IS GOING TO GET NASTY! I HOPE IT IS GOOD FOR MY TRIP!

    Daily Hours

You have to have at least 8 consecutive hours of-duty before driving after you

    - complete 13 hours of driving time
    - complete 15 hours of on-duty time (on duty time can be any time on duty..even if there is no driving time

There are cycles that outline time which can be chosen.

7-day cycle...drivers must not drive after 60 hours of on duty time in 7 consecutive days

8-day cycle...drivers must not drive after 70 hours of on duty time in 8 consecituve days

14-day cycle...drivers must not drive after 120 hours of on-duty time in 14 consecutive days...Another requirement of this cycle is that drivers must take 24 hours off duty time before working 75 hours of on duty time...

Off-duty time is any time you are not on duty...

Northwest territories and Yukon have different regulations,.,,

We are talking about the new regs taking effect on the 01-01-07 but under current regs gdt is correct.
And to answer the other question I drive all over Canada and all 48. You name it and I have either been there, going there or am going there.LOL.

Lucky you! I wish I could travel for about a year! Just wait until them kiddies grow up, you all better save for retirement for around 2015 cause they will be letting me lose as a truck driver, OMG I am scared:cheese:

Just kidding I will be a safe driver, and I know how to log and all the tricks (but I won't use the tricks, but I sure will know how to split break!)

    HAVE A GREAT NITE

I am studying myself so please ask questions on the above because we all need to know and I would love to hear everyone else's interpitation on them!
I go to Canada next week to learn some on it! I hope the weather holds out for me! I am hitting the Casino, oh YEAH! :hello1: Not that I am big gambler , I will only spend maybe $40.00. Ok I am off subject here! Sorry

Hey logsrus, just wanted to wish you a good time in Windsor. I'm not sure if you will see many deals on shopping, since we usually go to the US for the deals. I also wanted you to be aware that not a lot of businesses are giving out much if any in the way of exchange rates these days. The banks are only giving about 13-15% now, so the businesses keep that to recoup the costs of actually having to deposit it separately instead of being able to put it in their regular bag.

It was kind of funny last week actually when a van load of Americans stopped into a MCDonalds and thought their money was still worth 50-60% more like it was last time they were here (4 years ago LOL). McDonalds told them it was even money. I offered them 10%. They declined both of our offers and presumably they went hungry LOL.

Also wanted to ad to the HOS discussion that I read in Truck News magazine (one of those free trucks stop mags) that Alberta wasn't going to adopt the new federal regulations, since it wouldn't work too well for the booming oil industry. But my understanding from the article is that provincial regs only apply to companies whose fleets operate exclusively in that province, and that all other companies follow the federal laws.
