I suppose it could've had a 238 ( Good Lord) with one stack, but every V- DEEtroit I ever saw or drove, had 2 smaller stacks. Back in the 70's, Cat wasn't a household name, like today. All I remember were the 1693 "clatterpillars" and were nothing but trouble. Cummins had the market cornered in the 70's.cke, MACK E-6, truckdad and 1 other person Thank this.

My experience in the 70’s with 1693 was good, both the 325 and 425 hp. There was another cat maybe 1674?
Worked with a lot of 1693’s, biggest drawback was no jake, very few had the retarder, when 3406 was introduced it didn’t have a jake til a year later. -
Pretty neat truck. Thanks for sharing!Tug Toy, cke, SAR and 1 other person Thank this.

Those 270 Cats would leave the 300 Mack I drove, in the dust and the 318's were behind me.

Look what someone dug out of the back of the lot. Heard rumors of it being brought back to life.... there's a V-12 Detroit sitting around here for it.
Tug Toy, tommymonza, Ruthless and 4 others Thank this. -
That has some potential for sure.tommymonza, 650cat425 and booley Thank this.
