What about some of those state Hwys in TX that post the weight limit 2-3 miles in...and then it's too late to turn around....they have you......and they are not listed on the Rand-McNally atlas as restricted roads either.....:biggrin_25524:

It's been about a year since i've been paid for driving a truck (drove 5 miles last month though, and getting ready to go out on the road in 9 days!), but I don't remember those. However, I have a very vivid memory of having to back up 2.5 miles down Route 66 in Texas in the middle of the night. My codriver woke up, asked what i was doing, i said...Backing up a couple miles! haha. What happened was, i had to go to the bathroom really bad. I saw an exit for Route 66 Business loop, and i saw a parking lot with a bunch of trucks in it, it was night, middle of nowhere, no streetlights anywhere, pitch black....and all i could think about was the fact i had to GO! Now, if i realized what I was in for, i would have just stopped on the shoulder of the highway. Anyway, so I pulled into the parking lot, went, and then left. I couldn't see any signs or ramps, just because it was night, and so I turned back the way i came from when i got off the highway...cause almost all exits in texas drop you onto a 1 way road traveling in the same direction as the highway, and thats what it sure felt like when I was on the ramp. Well, I saw what I thought was a ramp, but it was going the wrong direction. I thought, maybe its one of those loopy ramps. Well, about a half mile in, i saw a sign that said "Road ends 2 miles". At that point, I have no idea why I continued on until it ended..

Anyway, basically the business loop turned into some kind of crazy one lane 2 way road complete with several 55mph speed limit signs. Problem is, the road didnt go anywhere. It just went to the middle of a field and ended. No houses, nothing, and I could see good enough to tell there were no driveways.

WTF IS WRONG WITH TEXAS? Why would you post 55mph speed limit signs on a road like that?!

By the way, these highways you are talking about...Are they atleast not pink-highlighted as designated routes in rand mcnally? Thats how 179 was.

Anyway, I will never use a road that is not pink again. Infact, one time I was sent to our terminal in Carlisle, PA...it was exit 44 on I-84, aka, right at the i-84/i-76 junction. I was told I was not to use the turnpike. I looked at the map and hey, theres roads right next to the turnpike the whole way that are pink highlighted. Started writing directions down, and then got to a point where for about 5 miles, the road was not pink highlighted. Started tracing around it. Well, 200 miles later, my route was back on course. I demanded for toll authorization, and got it after a couple of sattelite messages back and forth. Seriously, 200 miles out of route to avoid that part of that road. LOL. I also managed to not get paid for the miles, because I was being sent in to have a talk with safety. To be honest, I was just glad to have a job after that talk, so I didn't complain. But...couldnt they have routed me where i didnt have to drive out of route to get this talk? Oh, and it was also 200 miles out of route to get to that terminal.

I-5 is heaven in most sections compared to I-80, it used to be really bad just east of Vacaville near the 505 split. Also between Colfax and Auburn there is a section that runs under a train tressel that kills me every time, even doing 55 over it throws you out of your seat. I was running 89 north this morning between South Lake Tahoe and Tahoe City, the speed limit is 55mph in some spots and in most cases 40mph was all I could do to keep it on the road. Other roads are 35mph where you can't help but run 50+...who posts these speeds!?!

one of my favorite stretches is 395 between Reno and Susanville, one side of the road is desert and the other is forest. Also 89 north of Truckee is a great drive, up near shasta it goes absolutely straight for like 20 miles =)

I'm too long....king pin law sucks! :biggrin_2551: If I squish myself up then I'm over weight....since I'm an O/O y'all that live there can have the loads. Don't like it there, not big on bumper to bumper traffic...give me the open road where I let loose at 75 mph.....YEE HAW.

62 mph....I'm pretty dang sure our truck doesn't go that speed and while we are talking about West....I also hate Oregon. I only buy a permit when I have to go and most of the time I try sneaking. 55 mph....WTF!! I know for a fact 55 is not happening in our truck. :biggrin_25513:
