Petition calls for more targeted relief for truck leases, insurance costs - FreightWaves

For a lot of the owner operators I work with, these past couple of weeks have started to get tough. Some, who were already hauling essential goods, are doing just fine.. but the majority of the O/O's I work with are stuck trying to haul dirt cheap non essential loads right now. A lot with new authorities too. When we finally get past this Covid-19 crap, the last thing we need is a completely depleted amount of small owner operators as they make up the majority of trucking companies out there and are part of the front lines trying to keep shelves stocked right now. This is a petition to get needed assistance while times are tough.

Thanks again for everything you O/O's and drivers do for us. Can't say it enough, you are the backbone of the economy

    singleton1001 Thanks this.

can there be any guarantee's that these lease operators will still be in business if they do get help?

as it is, many operate on a shoe strung budget if they have one. as it is, many cry and have been crying for years about the lease payments, trailer rentals and everything else.

maybe this will be a way to rid an industry of lease operators that cannot run efficiently with a savings account,(before they even sign a lease) and just sign on the proverbial dotted line?

too many lease operators fail in short time, why should millions of dollars go to them, over long proven owner-operators?

or don't you pay any attention to all the crying the lease operators do on just about any trucking website?????

they have all be warned to NOT SIGN a lease deal.....and they still do, and we have to bail them out..???

    not from my tax dollars.

Why would I join in on a petition to help my competitors out?

This industry is beyond oversaturated with fly by night owner operators who do nothing but come out here with a shoe string budget, duct taped together hunk of junk truck, and cut the rates down to almost nothing.

I hope the government offers no help and those owner operators who didn't save for a rainy day sink and go out of business.

####. You gotta good point there. Pretty cut throat. But at the end of the day it is about YOUR business succeeding right? I saw it and signed it right away. Didn't even think of that. My bad. I truly believe a lot of fat will be cut

I’m a little slow on the giddy up, but isn’t keep truckin the eld provider? If so I wonder how much money they stand to lose? Of course I’m sure they’re doing it out of kindness

Many small businesses were already struggling. These loans/grants prolong the inevitable. I mean, if that's what the government wants to do, its just what it is. Many small businesses need to go under. I don't mean to sound like a prick, but it's what it is. The truly good and stable businesses will be there when this passes.

Another thought.......I've got some buddies applying for these loans because they lease purchase drivers at their companies. This article cleared up a lot of questions I had. It seems like these loans are geared towards those with an actual payroll. I told one friend ot to apply, he is still working and he should keep working. Loads ain't always gonna pay what a driver wants but something is better than nothing. He is still able to turn the miles but for some reason lease purchase drivers think they are the same as a driver leased on to a company or a driver with his/her own numbers

Although there are plenty of O/O's who are exactly what you are describing, there are also a lot of other good hard working people who are stuck trying to haul non essential goods right now and hurting. I'm not saying that there isn't room for fat to be trimmed because I definitely agree that a flooded market isn't good, but undercutting smaller O/O's who run their business the right way and having nothing but larger fleets on the road isn't ideal either. The majority of trucking companies are 1-3 truck operations

Just what we need Government intervention so they can help us out by imposing more rules and regulations after they bailed some of you out financially...

Sounds like a fantastic idea.... NOT!!!
