A friend of my mom just switched from running his two reefers coast to coast over too California only. I guess there is some way to make a profit there? He runs old trucks. In a few years they will have to be retrofitted with particulate filters though.

hes not joking!!! -
The date keeps changing, it was origianlly Jan. 1,. 2012 now its 2013. Hopefully it will change some more, by then the technology will be dirt cheap for the particulate filters!

APUs will need DPFs
Side skirts for trailers....Monos instead of duals.......NO idling even if it's +120* or -30*..........
And TX is getting that way too...... -

What does the insurance company say about that?

Seen a van kampen rig with side skirts on the trailer. Truck looked nice but those skirts just killed it. That's dallas they'll find there way back to tx someday.

If you are new with a CDL (less than a year or 2) most companies will not insure you. I did find insurance with Progressive. I had not had a CDL driving job in 10 years. payments were 1300 a month for liability, physical damage and trailer (no physical) for the first 5 months, 6 month was no payment. I just renewed with them and it dropped down to 900 month. Progressive does it in 6 month increments, most places do 1 year, so if your good (no tickets) the cost should drop every 6 months. The OOIDA insurance companies require 2 years.
So if you are getting your authority with no driving experience you can get insurance it is just expensive.
