Do you have to retake the CDL test in your State if you go to a company out of state

Each state is different on what is required when you move to that paticurliar state. Just to be safe I would go to the nearest State DMV office and ask them.

 

And don't forget, you have to change your license to the state you move to within 10 days.

 

You have to take the tests required for the state you are a resident of when you are applying for your first CDL. They may be able to prep you for the test but you will have to take it and pass it in your home state. Once you have it you can go to work with any company in state or out of state. The problem with going to an out of State School is finding the equipment to do the driving test.

If the school is in the state of your residence then they usually supply a truck with a trailer to do the test in. Some company schools I have seen want you to become a "residence" of the state and apply for a license in the state they are located in. I would try to find a school in IL if at all possible.

 

Normally this is true, but the state of Illinois changed the law so that even if the license holder has had one in another state for 30 years and then moves to Illinois, they have to test for an Illinois license.

for your cdl usually you just have to take the written exam to transfer your cdl to that state
