I called recruiting but I was on hold for about 20 minutes so I was hoping one of you guys would be able to help me. I don't have a CDL so I wanted to now if they are only hiring CDL holders from FL at this time or excluding Florida altogether. I'm expecting to hear the all too familiar Florida rejection but I'm trying every company until they all tell me no!![]()

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.
Is Swift hiring from Florida at this time?

Tell 'em you're calling long distance. That will give you preferential treatment.
-

I Talked to Swift today, and the recruiter told me yes they are, i am out of Jax.
The Lady I spoke with today says that you must have a CDL Learners permit to come to their training.
besides swift i have been looking into quite a few that would hire me from my area, Covenant, Werner, CTL, WSE, CRST, Conway, and Knight / Squire sounded positive also, and Swift.
Hope this helps
~ETre81 Thanks this. -
Yeah that helps alot man! I am currently a stay at home dad with a 18 month old so I'm gonna have to find time to make the call when my child is sleeping. By the way, where did you get your CDL? I was thinking about going Florida Sate College so I could open up my options with the other companies you mentioned instead of having to go to Swift by default. -
Well I am in process, There is Roadmaster Training School in Jacksonville, i believe their finance charge is 6495.00 then there is national truck training in Green cove springs theirs is 4995.00 and then their is TDI, in Sanford, not sure what their rate is. i wanna say around 4000, to 4500.00.
I wouldn't recommend Roadmaster, they are developing a bad rep, something to do with the nationally accredited headcount they must maintain, they as a result try to move people into the class like cattle, without processing their credit aps or background checks (very important in this business) until you are well underway into their system, then if anything remotely resembling a spot on the record comes up, they boot you then you have to start over someplace else. according to the other schools, they have a really bad rep for doing this to students. then students end up owing them money and still have no Class A, Kinda sh**ty if ya ask me.
So I Am looking into TDI, ATM, only because i may be able to get into their class this coming Monday,(Sept 28 as opposed to national starting an overflow class on Oct 18th. thing with TDI, if you need a place to reside while training, they have a deal with a motel (hopefully not a roach motel) that will charge 100.00 for three weeks. week days only, you have to find something else for the weekends, or go home.
Another Challedge going on right now, is Credit. Banks have really tightened their belts. i was talkin to a gent earlier, he was telling me that a student wanted to train, had a beacon of like 740, bank still wouldn't finance the total tuition, he still had to come up with 1500.00 down. only other option if finace is challedging for ya, give'em 3000.00 down for TDI and 2250.00 down for National, in order for them to finance the rest of the loan strictly in your name.
Hopes this helps, GL

I do NOT know how TDI is now, but in 1997 they sucked. I just went for a refresher, and felt sorry for the newbies..Maybe they've changed......

Still do Its just CDL mill If you ask me.(No one did)Anyway;Three weeks 1st week paper, app.,dot phyiscal, drug test. Test at the dmv & class room apart of your final score. General knowledge, air brakes, combination must pass all at the dmv & class room to get your permit to train in a class A truck. Really this was don't that bad. 2nd week more test dot,logs,loading/unloading,hasmat,per trip, uncoupling/coupling, map reading ect. all good stuff need to know this.1/2 of the 2nd week is range backing straight line backing. 3rd week more range backing and road driving. Need to learn to back, So run over as many cones as you can. Where they fall flat is the road taining.I only went two times on the road. With 3 other students. Only 1/2 aday road. So you only drive maybe a mile. Was not very helpful on shifting but just to tell you doing it wrong/ stop. Just to short of a time. You really can't learn how to drive safely this way.May be 4 weeks one with nothing but driving on the road. For $5075.00 I thoght it would be better. Training, For the training I got was not worth $5075.00. Oh you better keep they go fast.
I completed school 8/21/09 with 91.8 passed skill test with only touching the line on straight line backing (no kidding).Job placement program sucks. I'm still looking.I went to the one in milton ,florida.
