I will assume being on time for both pick up and delivery is a given what are the little things a small company does that get them to the top of your goto list. Does a good company get a better rate
And what are the things that just annoy the hell out of you and not want to work with somebody.
As a broker what makes you want to use a carrier again

Poor brokers. Constantly seeking relations with anyone who will carry them.
All they have to do is appoint Proxies a rental address with some land and a trucking company of their own. -
Consistency and reliability. Pick the load up, deliver the load, don't be the cause of a variety of phone calls.
Be the kind of carrier that a broker knows once the rate con is accepted and signed, the load is as good as done and delivered.Arch Stanton, Dino soar, Brettj3876 and 9 others Thank this. -
This in one. And if something should come up, do whatever you can to resolve it.Dino soar, alds, Crude Truckin' and 1 other person Thank this.

Speaking for myself, any carrier that texts me updates without me having to call is someone I call first when I have a matching load. Willingness to get paid off FSC, since that's how we invoice customers. Doesn't give loads back without being able to show why. I will take a smaller margin to not have to worry about a load.
Arch Stanton, Dino soar, alds and 7 others Thank this. -
Having given great service to every broker I've ever run for (spot market, lots and lots of different ones), not bugging or being difficult, communicating through text/email as much as possible, not cancelling but 2 loads in 2.5 years and for that asking a fair rate based on DAT average usually and..........
I still cannot figure out what makes a broker want to use me again.
They just don't call. They don't email. They don't seem to want relationships.
I think it's a few things, mostly that I have one truck (not enough capacity) and that in the spot market there are just too few brokers that are worth a crap.
Still, I'm looking every day.Dino soar, TallJoe, Dave_in_AZ and 1 other person Thank this. -
Sometimes you have to mention it yourself. If you like a load, and your in a position to do it repeatedly. Then talk to them about it.Arch Stanton, Dino soar, 86scotty and 1 other person Thank this.

Sometimes, it's hard to connect the dots. I have come to develop a network of a handful of carriers for regional work. I have a go to for the Carolinas, a go to for Cali, and a go to out of Wyoming. I've tried to put together others that I've worked with, but they've been busy or out of the areas I need help in. Makes it tricky.Dino soar, loudtom, Brettj3876 and 3 others Thank this.

New customer I've developed that's kind of equivalent to bagging a rhinoceros.
More like landing a big fish with light tackle. He's pulling, you're pulling. Just don't snap the line and be patient.
It's truly awesome freight, and would make several people HOWL on a thread next door.
Today I help them unload, and I'm not required to, and this stuff is HEAVY.
So the guy's wife is checking off the items. And as the day goes, she's taking a shine to me.
But dude is getting mad about that lol.
"DAVID is SO nice." "DAVID is SO helpful."
"DAVID wouldn't even let me touch one of the small ones."
And David is thinking, " Ma'am, please just shut up. I just want to provide you the most outstanding service possible so I can lock this for my trucks."
Not have your husband go,"Best service we ever had, and I never wanna see him again. " lolDino soar, Brettj3876, 86scotty and 5 others Thank this. -
What is FSC, while I have been a sub hauler for local dirt hauling for 30 years and pretty much the top of the totem pole with my current broker that I have been working with or for for 25 years or so I am diversifying into low bed and flatbed basically going to stay regional but going to need to find a brokers in the other specialty's
