That is correct, only the companys insurance can determine what speed the truck will go. As for mine 74mph is the limit. Also thier is a CODE but u got to have the dealers comp to do this with. You will also get FIRED on the spot if u mess with the comp set speed limit.
So to end this subject
If u wanna go FAST, go become an Owner Operator and then u can fix ur own truck to what ever speed u want.

The last outfit I pulled for had their rigs capable of about 80 MPH and I have done plenty of running in AZ at a legal (at least back in 2001) 75 MPH. However, I was grossing around 55 to 60K lbs.....
The AZ freeways were always littered with "alligators" from drivers who ran at 80 MPH at 80K lbs with 22.5 steer tires in 115 degree heat. Sometimes a little of that (uncommon) "common sense" needs to apply. Just because you "can" doesn't always mean you "should" run at those speeds....
(And yes, the bull and chicken haulers do tend to "haul" sometimes! I think it's the fumes...)

The super truckers usually neglect to take notice of the speed rating on their tires, hence the accidents waiting to happen.

Not just the speed ratings, I'll bet a lot of them have no idea how much pressure is in their tires either. Just thump 'em with the ol' tire billy and call it good.....
High speed, high temp running calls for a little more scrutiny. The rating means nothing if there's only 75 lbs of air in there.....
I think saving the 80 mph for night running when it's cooler and there's less 4 wheel traffic is a better plan. Besides, the fuel mileage at 75 MPH with the air conditioner going full blast is gonna cost those who pay for fuel themselves.....I doubt that the time saved by running 75 MPH offsets the expense of fuel and wear....JMO

One way, (with company drivers) to limit trucks would be to use the satalite system ! I talked to a Canadian driver in Canada who's company had his truck set up so that if he maintaned a company minimum MPG his truck was wide open. If his MPG dropped below the company minimum the speed AND the horsepower were shut down automaticly through the satalite system until his MPG climbed back up ! As he said "use it when you need it, but if you abuse it you loose it" I'm sure there would be allowances for winter fuel etc but that seems a good way to govern drivers with a heavy right foot ?

How bout' we don't govern the trucks and see if we can't locate some drivers with some sense? Just because you can go fast doesn't mean u should! I work for a small company most of our trucks are not governed, but we know better than to run flat on the floor all the time. I prefer to drive a truck that I control not one that controls me.
