Even if the company doesn't pay for CAT (or other CERTIFIED scale) tickets, how much is your time worth? Is $12 really gonna break the bank? I'll bet a service failure will cost you more short and long term, not to mention if you have to make the load legal at the DOT scale.
Let's say you make an average of $15/hr. You get slapped with an overweight fine (this could be anywhere from $0.01/lb to...make up a number).
You also have to wait a minimum of an hour for someone to get to the scale with the equipment to make you legal. Sometimes they have to bring out a rolling dock to get the forklift in and out of the trailer. They're not in a hurry, you could be there a few hours. Now how much are you out?
Overweight Tickets -Does company have any skin in the game?

you can either take the standard deduction or itemize. not both.truckdriver31 and x1Heavy Thank this.

While all that is true, the fact the company isn't willing to pay for scale tickets points to a deeper problem than trying to work around a scale ticket.BigDog Trucker, tscottme, Gearjammin' Penguin and 3 others Thank this.

Always, been on the driver. You can afford to pay the scale , or pay more attention when loading, so you have a better idea of where the weight is
alds and truckdriver31 Thank this. -
Beware the company telling you to give them the overweight ticket and they will pay it. The ONLY way to be sure an overweight ticket is paid is for the company to give you the money/check or for you to pay it. Once the ticket disappears into "the company" you may have no idea if it's paid or not. You do not want to find out later thst ticket was never paid.
It's a scummy oufit that risks your license forbthe price of a Cat scale fee. -
This is basically where I’m at. This company pays better than my last two. Plus switching jobs would lose me a lot more money than paying a few scales. Also, the company agrees to reimburse me most of the time. Especially if the load is north of 40,000lbs. Quitting over something like this would be pretty stupid right now, since most companies are on the verge of laying off workers.TruckChicken and HoneyBadger67 Thank this.

I would dump em. Worked for a place for 3 days, and on the 3rd day they pulled that crap. I said sayanora. Dont jack up your good standing and driving record to benefit someone like that.

He can protect his driving record by getting a scale ticket, even if he has to pay out of pocket.
Then while still working in this pandemic he can search out another company, and wait for the right time to make a move.
Quitting right now would not be the smartest thing to do.magoo68 and TruckChicken Thank this. -
Hahahahaha. The rims on the one axle look like theyre about 1/10th of an inch from making contact with the pavement.

No worries. He's just going down the road a a mile or twenty...BigDog Trucker Thanks this.
