Been out of a truck for 12 years so i decided to pull my DAC to look at it. Nothing. I guess it only goes back 3 years. Question is, if I were to go back to trucking and theres nothing on it cuz its been so long, is that a good thing or bad?

it goes back 7 years.
after the 7 year time, it'll only show the company names. i know this, as it had companies i worked for as far back as 20 + years, but they are forbidden to disclose any information, PAST the 7 year time frame.
so "up to 7 years" they can still disclose information.
so i'd say that at 12 years, you're good to gorachi and Transit_lifer Thank this. -
But, how does your mvr look? Any tickets? If everything good then go for it. You will need to take a refresher. Hopefully you still have your CDL.

Its spotless. Been driving city transit for almost 10 years.....just curious what a company would think if i drove so long ago but have nothing to show on it.
-
Won't be a problem for you, just need to take the refresher which usually means a week or two with a trainer.
-
a lot of companies don't even bother with DAC.

You will be treated like a green newbie who's never seen a truck before. Other than that, no problems.

Just because you've been out of a truck doesn't mean you dont know how to operate and back-up one. However most of the OTR companies will look at you as a recent school graduate. And want you to go through the training they have for new students.
Look into local companies that dont go by that B/S. I've had idiot recruiters tell me all kinds of dumb things when I came back from driving in Iraq. " Oh you weren't driving in the US you dont have any experience. That type of driving isnt verifiable. If you leave an OTR company to go and drive local or overseas, then you will have to find another OTR carrier to work for 6 months before you can apply here."
These were the things different recruiters or safety depts would tell me. And I heard the same type of talk when I got laid off from a local job in 2016.
So to avoid wasting time on a B/S refresher course. Apply to companies that dont go by DAC/Hireright. Now some outfits may say you dont qualify because your weren't driving a truck at all. But driving a city bus requires a cdl w/passenger endorsement. So that's still enoght to drive a truck in my opinion. Keep trying until you find a place to take you. -
Stay local
Don't care about dac.
And if you insist on being a gypsy.
Go small. Someone that don't care about dac.
BTW. Millions of rookies join the profession with absolutely nothing on their dac. But the usual ########.
Last note.
DAC IS FOR LIFE.
I've still got my original remarks from my very first trucking job. Almost 20 years ago. -
HHMMmmmm...that is strange, on my DAC, it only listed the names of the companies i had worked for, over the years, but nothing else.
now that i no longer have my CDL, the last time (this past January in fact) when i ordered up my yearly DAC, they could not find me, as i did not have a CDL anymore..but...my operators license, is THE SAME number as my CDL was?
