Think about buying a house how you get a brokered load. Your agent doesn't tell you the price of the house, doesn't tell you the amount they charged you...just tells you the monthly payment and length of the loan term. Either you go for it or ya don't!

Sounds really free market. THAT'S FRIGGING EXTREME CAPITALISM, BROTHER! WOOOOO!

Let’s look at the real estate agent as a broker in the trucking sense. The seller wants their house gone. Real estate “broker” says they’ll take their house for a certain amount. My dealing with the real estate broker would have absolutely nothing to do with their dealing with the seller. Either the agent and myself come to a deal or not. If we don’t, I move on and the broker still has a house to get rid of.

I’m sorry that I was unaware that people don’t have the ability to tell a broker no and then leave the conversation.

Well. Surely it's on the driver to negotiate what they need. But I'd rather make a fully informed choice. Which is why I'd never deal with a broker in the first place, given what the system you guys are championing is.

Who would the government go to for advice on where to set prices.. My guess is the ATA who have members who can run a truck far cheaper than most owner ops .

I met a broker and his frivolous ####### wife one day. Just bragging about all the money they make off drivers. Real pieces of work.

My favorites were when he laughed about "work ethic" and "free market."

"If they knew how much I was taking from them, they'd burn my ####ing office down."

    Direct quote.

I guess it's not the broker who you accepted the load from at a rate you freely agreed to.

What was he claiming to make off of drivers? Would you have the same reaction to a shop owner bragging how much he makes off selling tires to drivers?
If they can cap the profit percentage of the broker they can cap the profit percentage of the truck driver/owner could you live off 15% more than your break even cost?

Not 15% cap on profits but 15% of a shipper's pay. They can negotiate for more, if they want more profit but they need to surrender 85% of the negotiated price. I think 15%-85% split is fair. If were a Judge, I'd say...yeah that's about fair. That's about what a salesmen commission is everywhere else. Let's not screw that poor Joe the owner operator, trying his best to deliver the load ...they have to buy fuel, tires, replace equipment in 10-15 years, keep it safe....let's net be too greedy, my dear broker friend. And you. shippers...you need to know that anything paying less than 2 dol per mile is a no no too. Pay them at least 2.5 dol per mile or more...but not less. Otherwise, haul it yourself.
    LOL
