Both my 87 and than later my 40 thousand dollar 98 Chevy van still had the same peeling problem.
Last American car I bought.
It involves a ton of prep to repainted a peeler. Pretty much need to sand it down to the primer and than prep the primer and put a two part sealer over it .
If you don't do this it will just keep peeling so your new paint job won't be new for long.
Your talking 3-4 thousand minimum to get it done halfway right. Materials alone are a grand.650cat425, Rideandrepair, WesternPlains and 1 other person Thank this. -
Rocks? If your dealing with rust. You need some way to stop the rust. Painting it is only part of the problem. Yet on a motor vehicle the rust usually forms on the backside you dont see and blisters the paint.

Now the small army of flies that ride along is another story.650cat425, D.Tibbitt, Rideandrepair and 2 others Thank this. -
Cow manure smells like money. Now pig or sheep manure on the other hand... Well lets just say id rather have the guy with the air pressure relief valve spitting every 20 seconds park beside me than try to live with that ungodly stench!

It still looks good except for a couple spots where the clear coat is peeling off... the hood and the left fender are still good... the clear coat is peeling off in some areas of the left fender too... The rest of the vehicle has never been painted... the clear coat is all gone and now the car is turning brown..
The shop guy said they will strip some parts and sand it to shiny metal before applying the primer and prep... and they will apply 2 coats of urethane paint...
He advised not to apply clear coat cause it might show imperfections even more and it will add about $800.00 more...
He showed me a paint job without the clear coat and it was shiny... But I am more concerned about making it last... without the clear coat, the paint will not last very long... It's an old vehicle but I intend to keep it for life... well... something like that... I am not that young any more..
Yeah... you got the price right...
If bumpers, tailamps, grille, bezels door handles, locks etc removed, it would be less then $3000.00... if they remove all that, it will be more than $3000.00...
My concern is that something breaks in the process of removing or putting those back in place...it's all very old and original... Not sure if I want all that removed but the bumpers... I'm still considering...
Went to another shop that was highly recommended... they would disassemble the whole vehicle.... doors, fenders, everything... said it would take about 100 hrs at $65.00/ hr... I was considering... But they said would have to wait till November...Not sure they wanted to do it...
