We made big money at the time....... for a blue collar person....

I’m cruising off the money I made in the beginning not the later part of my career

Supposedly there were quite a few wrecks
from drivers doing what I mentioned earlier keeping 2 sets of books and driving non stop or some taking drugs in order to push through.

I'd wasn't around back then but right now I'm under an agriculture except or something like that I don't ask to many questions I enjoy how I run I almost always go home whether I drive 100 miles or 1000 boss doesn't care what I do as long as I'm on time where I need but maybe one day I can try out that paper thing I hear people talk about

    Only 2 books?

I must have been doing it wrong.

But they did give you time to get your book up to date if it wasn't current.

Yeah, pay phones, paper maps, spring ride seats, no power steering. Cruise control was the throttle lock, 350 big cam was a big motor...and on and on.

The guys that ran in my uncles band of brothers didn't run 2 logs to cheat the law they did it to cheat the companys they leased to. They would run a load and drop it off a half day or a day early and get under another one for a private customer to make extra $$$ on the side and go. By the time they get that load finished the lease company has a another one in dispatch ready for them. Turn in the logs to the lease company and it shows delivered on time and the truck sat till the next one came in. The Other log showed the law they ran a 2 drop load.

Got a cousin that still does that today. He hauls roadbase all day out to the surrounding counties for whatever its needed for. Gets done with last load and goes back in to load up for a private customer on his way home still within his workday hours. Elogs don’t know he’s actually getting 2 paychecks during those hours everyday.

We worked 15 hours a day all season long .Haul construction materials. Rain didn’t slow us down at all. My record was 118 hours in a week...

Used to pack 40 tons net into the trailer . Now you need a feather weight truck to net 34 tons. Or they won’t let you leave the pit..... and it goes on and on.
