How is freight right now? I’m assuming lower than normal. I’m planning on becoming an OO but thinking it’s too risky right now and I should wait but the other part of me is saying JUST DO IT. Any insight will help. Thanks.

You will not survive on the spot market right now. Unless you have essential contract freight I'd wait.
ajp201 and Midwest Trucker Thank this. -
If you survive this slow down. You will prosper until retirement.

Smart man. Right now is beyond terrible due to many many factors.
Research all you can now and start following the used truck market. If you do this right, you can come out ahead. In the next 3 to 6 months you can buy a truck for next to nothing from some guy gone broke, then hit the upswing in rates while freight comes back but capacity still is out of the market. Win/win.Scooter HBG and ajp201 Thank this. -
I don’t have the money saved up to buy my own, am probably doing a Lease Purchase through a company. I’ve done my due diligence , they seem pretty legit. Even they said they “can’t guarantee” freight if I started now and to think of coming in as a company driver first but I’ve been a company driver for two years and am ready to take the next step.

Best possible advice you could get. You couldn't PAY FOR better, more accurate and sound advice but it's not what you probably want to hear.
As others wrote, you sound like your mind is decided on going in the direction you've described.
Midwest Trucker Thanks this. -
Get a company driver job with a good company and save up until you can buy a truck. Lease/purchases seldom end well. Don't think that you are going to be the one guy that succeeds. Odds are heavily against you. When you lease from the same company you run for, you are doing nothing but buying a job. Except you won't make as much.
