One of my guys got hit because hit trailer tandems on the trailer weren't in the right spot for the state he crossed into, $750 fine for that and the trailer was empty, if they regulations are based on safety and the point of moving the tandems is to shift the weight of a heavy load I'm surprised they would write a ticket for an empty, but yea I know its the DOT..
Need some insight on Trailer Tandem regulations

Some states its not ONLY about weight... But also the distance from the king pin to the rear axle.
Proxy, not4hire and jammer910Z Thank this. -
That's the Bridge Law. It because of 53' trailers are now everyone wear. It was not a problem with 48' trailer. Lots of state don't really enforce it much but CA sure does.

Tennessee also enforces the bridge law.

I tend to move my tandems to 40 feet from kingpin, even if I'm not going to cali. It's not just about weight, it's also about turn radius in the street development. Cali is the most extreme. Theres a list in the fuel book my company provides of tandem distances per state, but rather than check which states I will be driving thru, I just adjust to cali. If the load weighs bad after that, then I'll do the work to see if I go thru states with a bridge law, and what it is. I've only had one load need to be reworked in a year and a half so far...
(Seriously, 6k over on the tandems and actually going to cali! Idjits!)Proxy, bryan21384 and jammer910Z Thank this. -
