Nope. You'll have to pull the hubs. I haven't yet come across any class 8 truck or trailer where its possible to do it with the hubs on.
Deere hunter, Dino soar, Shawn2130 and 3 others Thank this. -
You shouldn't say that. Lots of trailers come right apart, some even have material removed from hub. Alot with the bolt in outter (wheel end) cam bushing when jacked up and the right angle on the dangle slide right out.
I can't think of a drive axle off hand. But not gonna say it's not possible.stillwurkin Thanks this. -
Definitely interesting to hear. I've never come across anything like that before. Then again anything I've ever touched has been bush spec logging, oilfield, lowbed etc.Shawn2130 Thanks this.

On some of the old White spec Rockwell built SQHD’s from the late 50’s-70’s had the s-cam bushing in a “clamshell” that bolted to the axle housing kinda like on some trailer axles. It could be removed without removing the hub or the drum. Maybe even the tires if enough room. You could wedge prybars to keep the shoes in place. They seemed to always be worn out either due to that design or the fact that those trucks were always beat to a pulp in the oilfields and construction.
Of coarse that is only history and doesn’t answer your question. -
I changed my trailer's bushing tubes yesterday. Just removed the slack adjuster and pulled the tube...
Now i am thinking to replace truck's bushings without removing the hub. -
I have noticed some trailers that appeared to have a short s-cam. The maxi was mounted over close to the hub. They may pull out. Never had one apart though.

Yes it's possible.
1 Cage air chamber
2 Wheels off, drum off
3 Disconnect and remove slack adjuster
4 Unbolt air chamber from bracket
5 Unbolt bracket from axle.
6 Replace bushings and seals or use new bracket.
7 Put everything back in opposite order.
8 Uncage air chamber
9 Adjust brakes
10 Drink beer.
RoadRanger^^ and Motto Thank this. -
Do you think this also applies for a Volvo truck ?

Three of my trailers actually you can replace the s cam and the s cam bushings without removing the wheel hub. They all use tube bushing hendrickson s28890
