I know that the tractor has to have a number, but does the trailer also have to be numbered?
If so, are there regulations on where the number has to be on the trailer?

I don't think so? But curious what others say
TallJoe Thanks this. -
So there is no regulation for a trailer number?
I thought that on my log I need to write a tractor number and a trailer number.
If I only pull my own trailer does it matter? -
We've always just had the trailer number go in sequence with the tractor. I'm truck 92 with trailer 92A. When I bought my current trailer, it became 92B. Our other one is 1971 and 1971A. It's simple and takes out any guess work.

I’ve never pulled one that wasn’t numbered. The flatbed company I drove for just had “T whatever the truck number was” because we pulled the same trailer. The guy I pulled cattle for was just whatever number he picked when he licensed the trailer. The pneumatic company I pulled for uses the last 4 of the VIN for the trailer number.
TallJoe, PE_T, Snailexpress and 1 other person Thank this. -
Maybe you could name trailers instead of numbering them.
For instance, "Rusty Boy" or "Fat Girl"ProfessionalNoticer, Midwest Trucker, Dino soar and 2 others Thank this. -
Is a trailer number required by law? I have no idea but no number may (will) keep you from being loaded. -
Midwest Trucker, TallJoe and Dino soar Thank this.
