Actually, yes. I was at a t/s and this guy was trying to change a flat tire on a travel trailer. His wife and i kids were playing frisbee in the grass nearby. well he had the thing jacked up but the rim would not come off the studs. He was hitting it and trying to bust it loose. So I grabbed my 3 lb sledge and asked if he thought that this might help. he hit it twice and the rust broke free. I helped him get the spare on and was gonna back to my truck and he invited me to dinner with his family. I accepted. He told me he had fought that tire for 45 mins and no one even looked at him or offered to help! I told him I was raised better than that and my parents would have been disappointed if I didnt try to help. I always offer to help someone if I see a need.kinnakeet04, future driver, luvmyhubby and 6 others Thank this.

Nope, but I did deliver a load of steel girders for a expensive barn they were building in NY one time. It was a COD load for about $220,000. Very nice Asian family and the father was generous when he made me sign for that certified check. He handed me a very small envelope with a oriental design that had a fifty dollar bill in it. Never seen a envelope like it. I honestly tried to not accept it but he was persistent about it. I ate well that night.

A couple times actually. A few years back my wife and I were at a Flying J in Haw River,NC (?) right around Thanksgiving. A miitary man and his wife come in and set down across the way from us, and I tried to subtly ask the waitress to bring me his bill. Toward the end of the meal, the man looks over toward our table and kind of salutes me...turns out he was the waitress's brother, and she told him what I had offered, and he beat me to it.
Also, right after Katrina, my company was hauling bottled water and such to the FEMA "stations". On my way back north I meet a man in Cuba,AL that had nothing but the clothes on his back and his car. He didn't even know for sure where his family had been evacced to. After seeing this story for the zillionth time, it was easy to see that it was taking a toll on me, but this man throws his arm around my shoulder and offered to buy me a sandwich. He had nothing to his name, yet HE was gonna buy ME a meal....unbelievable.WanabeTrucker, kinnakeet04 and Donk Thank this. -
Many more times then I could possibly remember
My favorite would have to be an older women with a flat
in rush hour cluster on I35 in Ft Worth.
I caught the drift off good ole 19 (where real drivers hang out 24/7) and eased my way off to fix the issue.
The woman was definitely "country" and quite scared of all the big city happenings around her,she wasn't far from tears by her looks.(late 60's)
I assured her it was nothing and would get her straight in just a few minutes.
Got her all lined out with some round rubber and she was ready to roll in less then 15 mins. She said she had been there over 1 hr
She insisted on paying me for helping her,I assured her that many generations before me would leave their graves if I were to ever allow such from a neighbor.
I'm Native Texan what else is there to say ?
I told her if she had an extra chicken around the house I could use another good layer and we could settle up on that(didn't have chicken one to my name) though shocked she found it amusing at such a request.
My business done,I bid her good day.simplyred1962 Thanks this. -
I've had a few sweet young things throw food and drinks at me

, don't know why? maybe they didn't like my thoughts about appreciating their fine form
or maybe they were grouchy?
I did once receive a $500 gift card, via my company, after stopping to help at an accident scene when a female driver lost control and rolled down an embankment. Since I was a former EMT, I stopped to help, some construction workers came over to help. I had to break out the back window and crawl in the car with her to comfort and hold her head still til EMS showed up. About a month later, she and her husband sent me a nice card and $500.00 GC as a thanks.Ducks Thanks this. -
some band member from a band called disturbed bought my lunch at badlands Nd truck stop and gave out a bunch of demo cds to everyone. don't know if that counts?

No meal, but I got a tip one time for delivering a drop of plants to a nursery in one of KCMOs less pleasant suburbs, the next day, at the last stop, the guy wanted to charge me for taking the delivery. We got paid extra to help unload, and it was a floor load with no pallets and lots of mess in a regular reefer.
I would want a flat floor for that job, with side doors.Last edited: Sep 26, 2009

Someone correct me but isn't it common courtesy for Asians to tip like that?
No meal but a better reward; I was going home from class when I saw a family trying to change tire on there mini van. I pulled over and had it changed within 25min and got several offers. I refused all as it was duty as a good citizen. The family got underway and I went mine. I even referred them to a tire shop and got underway. Never heard from them but doing something for family felt good.

As a trucker I've had it the reverse situation, When im home and have my CB on in the car and I see truckers from out of the area Ill get on the CB in form them that I'm also a trucker sometimes drivers are as leary as 4 wheelers dealing with safty, and ask the trucker on the side of the road if hes ok, sometimes they will say they are looking for a particular place. Ill say "if ya dont mind ill show you where it is " they will follow me and when im leading in the car I will run the route as if I was in a truck due to restrictions and the laws we have to follow. upon arrival where they have to go I get out of the car and walk to the truck and tell them to write down the directions out of the area, sometimes they offer money but I refuse as I've been there myself. I even once at a reciever (while on duty) helped a total greenhorn back his rig into the dock, I put it in the spot, tight fit ,he knew nothing of backing , he was holding up the whole traffic lane,,, finally had enought, I could not believe it.
