The police radio deal was 25 years ago and he wouldn't stay on it but around 30 seconds at a time. I doubt that had the technology back then to locate other than triangulation and he wouldn't stay on long enough for them to do that. You've also got to understand this is a very small town and the guy probably knew all the cops. As far as I know he didn't ever interrupt any emergencies, he would just get on there when nobody else was and start talking random crap.

I was a trucker for 16 years and ran 4,400 watts daily talking skip around the world on 11 meter. You new boys sure worry about the wrong stuff.

Yes they have.. However, you normally don't hear from Uncle Charlie unless they have received a complaint.

I knew a guy from the Super Bowl channel years ago.. He had about 275 Watts into a 4-Element Quad at 40ft... If he heard you, he could work you... No need for a KW...

Just made a couple contacts on 40 lsb with a bone stock Uniden 980 and a well tuned antenna. No need for 100k.

For shame ... that's cheating with all that power.

    I've got my record, 350mw 10,500 miles.

    Please someone explain that.

Every couple years or so they bust a big base operator, more or less as a way of saying "hey guys, we're still here and we still do this." As a truck driver as long as you mind your Ps and Qs you have nothing to worry about as you'll simply be too difficult to find.

So - don't talk or interfere on the ham bands, don't interfere with an airport, don't interfere with the military (the latter two will garner swift action by the FCC if they can locate you as they still take that very seriously for obvious reasons)
