US mail contractors

Actually the companies determine $ per hour but the post office puts out a minimum if I remember correctly. I work for Eagle. Our Louisville drivers make more than what he posted.

Hoovestol bought Eagle I believe in 2013. 10roads was basically created to buy Salmon. Eagle and 10Roads are 2 separate companies, although Wayne Hoovestol is chairman of the board of both. He owns them both.

 

If my calculations are correct that's about a 65 hour per week run. That would be between 94k and 97k here. That's a lot of hours.

 

Okay I take that back. Evidently our Louisville guys only make 22.60 per hour. My bad. I had them figured at the Indy local rate of $24.81. Sorry

 

My hats off to you guys that haul mail. I worked for Southern Mail Service in San Antonio, TX.

Yes, I made $25 an hour but starting work at 1-2 am got old after awhile. Working every weekend with no rotating weekends off got old quick too.

Most USPS workers were good people and other than stealing my trailer my co workers were decent too. Between the favoritism by dispatch and having no life I hated the job.

Anyways. Hats off to you guys and gals that can do it.

No.
Also, you mention 401k. Health and Welfare is to help offset insurance costs. If you are single it will be more than enough dollars to cover insurance. Our company pays you any leftover. Some companies force you to put the leftover in a 401k. I will not work for those companies for 2 reasons.
1. Too many examples of a company going under and drivers finding some or all of their 401k money gone.
2. I don't let companies make my investment decisions. With today's technology it is easy to set up brokerage accounts and make your own decisions.

 

I know that Eagle took over Beam Bros in Mt Crawford, Va after Beam got in big trouble with the government. You know anything about that? think I read somewhere that it cost Beam Bros around 4 million dollars to get out of it and lucky they did not go to prison.

 

MTI is hit, or miss. Some people have nice trucks and love there jobs. Others at MTI drive junky trucks and trailers and are broke down a lot.

 

Anyone have luck with working for veltri they are up in Philadelphia area? Can you make a decent living off of 23hr which they are offering?

 

How many hours times 23 an hour? If you're being offered a 40÷ hour a week bid run, that's not too bad. Mail contractors tend to force you to take their health insurance which is pricey. If you type Veltri in the search box, there are some mixed reviews. I would drive my car to their yard and look around and talk to a driver or two and check out the equipment.
