If the clutch is out and the stick is in gear and it doesn't move it is still not in gear. Your stick isn't moving the fork enough to totally engage the dog gear. Thats what that grinding sound is, the gear not totally engaging.

We could take up a small collection? If he's still there Monday i have no qualms about taking my personal car down there and get him, gotta wait on my check to go in the bank, though...
What do you guys think? Setup a paypal account and donate to the get rob going fund?

Bogey Thanks this. -
I know that feeling all to well,.....I hope yous figure it out,............

When you first told me last night that you had 7th and 9th gear, but not 8th and 10th, my first thought was the range synchronizer was not working. That's why I had you to check for air leaks and to operate the range selector with the trans in neutral. But then you stated that you also didn't have reverse , 1st -5th, it opened up all sorts of possiblities that would be nothing but guess work over the phone. Sorry but it doesn't sound like an easy quick fix, I'm hoping i'm wrong .....

I'm game. We just gotta figure out a way to get that tractor back to Charlotte if at all possible. Get him home and it'll be much easier to deal with. One thing is for sure, if/when it gets fixed and running, it's time to get that tractor to someone to give it a COMPLETE eval to find problems BEFORE they happen. Getting stranded gets WAY too expensive, especially when you've already spent bank on previous repairs and need that load to get back on track. Maybe it's time to just make sure that truck is issue-free so it doesn't let you down again. It's supposed to make you money, but when it breaks down it just COSTS you money, more than you would have made.
BTW Rob, that load still due on Monday morning? Gotta figure out a way to get that to the consignee so you can at least get paid on it. -
Should I pull this tower up? It's about the only mechanical thing I know what to expect when I see it. But this is because we just replaced it!
My flathead screwdriver isn't thick enough to grab those screws we notched though
-
Yes ... pull the tower and look....take a picture and send it to me. Use the screwdriver that you have..just put it at an angle and tap it wit a hammer to turn the screw.
-
jsut for kicks and giggles, what happens when you lock in the 4 wheel drives.
i doubt the bank is laughing. he's had the truck for what, 6 months now? and how many miles? crap breaks down. it's called wear and tear. nothing can be done to prevent it cept parking the truck. -
Will do. I borrowed a screwdriver. The guy just said "sounds bad" and took off.

not a good sign when a helping hand takes off running.

crossing fingers for a cheap fix.
