Are you an owner?
If not become one and learn first hand what it takes to keep a truck running.PPLC, Speed_Drums and Lite bug Thank this. -
The best advice I have seen. Because if you do not know that part of this business you will be doing a disservice to the people you are trying to help. Your goal in a dispatching business is to help your customers ( owner/operator) if not you have no business.PPLC and Speed_Drums Thank this.

And if you don’t have direct freight all you’re doing is charging to load guys with spot market freight from a load board.
D.Tibbitt and Speed_Drums Thank this. -
Who is going to be your customer ?
Who will be giving you your paycheck ? -
I will be working with owner operators. I just want to do it legally

If your not acting as a broker , carrier , owner operator , driver etc etc I know of no laws regarding “dispatching”. I’m not an attorney so take that with a grain of salt.

I went to college for my bachelors in Logistics, after I spent a year OTR with my dad learning about how hard it is for drivers out there...if you don't k kw exactly what you're doing, you won't last long, honestly
If you don't have compassion for drivers, and skim off the rate Cons, you won't last, trust and respect your drivers, send them the true confirmation from shippers, not a 2nd copy with the rate changed. They are the ones doing all the work...
GET FREIGHT LANES, dont load drivers off of boards they can do themselves.
I've been doing this 27 years now, if you like answering the phone 24/7 try it out.
You need your brokering authority, freight forwarding authority1nicevette, Coffey, Lite bug and 1 other person Thank this. -
Can I dispatch for multiple carriers?Coffey Thanks this.

This is just the latest in a long line of ideas the good idea fairy has put into OP's head. If memory serves, he's a 19 year old kid with a tractor that runs intrastate in California, and has changed business plans like... a dozen times?Coffey Thanks this.
