Has anyone had any experience with Prime's carrier program?

It's the one where you run with your own authority but can use Prime's trailers, fuel discounts (using their card), and their terminals. You can find your own freight to go in the trailers or you use Prime's dispatch.

I would like to know anything good or bad.

    Thanks

Haven't had any experience with that program, but I do drive a company truck and have been looking into it.

    - Freight rates are down, so you need to take that into consideration.

If the revenue that the loads I pull as a company driver are considered to be representative of the overall pool of freight that is available from Prime, then...

    - You can't make it under Prime's traditional lease-operator format as a solo.
    - Teams, training trucks and company trucks are doing ok.
    - If an owner operator can get his costs low enough, they'd probably do ok...

Keep in mind that a traditional lease-op has a $944 payment for a new tractor every week. If your costs for the equipment and insurance are under that, you probably can make money - but you really have to keep your costs down.

Woah there IP. Not sure where you got the $944 payment figure from. But my payment on my 2009 Cascadia is $810 a week. The Petes are a little higher, but not by much.

Well my truck is new and paid for so no payments and no major repair bills. I have been giving this some serious thought. I just have not made up my mind yet. Does Prime get freight in and out of Florida with any consistency?

We do get freight down there... I've pulled a couple of hazmat loads from Jersey down there. Got a welfare juice (cheap OJ) out one time, and a load from the Smithfield plant in Tampa (now closed) another time. You'd need to check with recruiting on whether they'd want to sign on someone based in FL. I know they haven't been willing to sign CDL students out of FL recently.
