yes, to simply take her late mothers gun, and just keep it under the counter, with no practical knowledge in how to operate, aim, shoot, and yes, even cleaning, is not wise.

yes, you are 1000% correct, as far as "defending her property", i'll give you that, as you and i and many others are indeed.

point is, i was "taught" at the range, and from actual gun advocate lawyers, that have videos on you tube, on the consequences of your actions, you just NEVER SHOOT ANYONE FLEEING.....

they are trying to get away, the cost of the menial items in this particular case of booze, is not going to be worth her future . yeah, at 88, she may not live much longer, but until she does pass away, she's gonna be in a world of hurt, legally, and financially.

as the videos/explanations go, only IF the thug is coming at you, do you shoot, not in a retreating mode.

and this from a legal site

Can One Shoot A Fleeing Robber?

    and this regarding Tennessee laws..

    (e) The threat or use of force against another is not justified:

    (1) If the person using force consented to the exact force used or attempted by the other individual;

    (2) If the person using force provoked the other individual's use or attempted use of unlawful force, unless:

    (A) The person using force abandons the encounter or clearly communicates to the other the intent to do so; and

    2010 Tennessee Code :: Title 39 - Criminal Offenses :: Chapter 11 - General Provisions :: :: Part 6 - Justification Excluding Criminal Responsibility :: :: 39-11-611 - Self-defense.

    i'd say she's toast.

She can claim mental illness, especially at her age. I wonder why she was still working at that age.

and here we go...she's been charged, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The 88-year-old owner of a Nashville liquor store charged with shooting a man last week says she had been “knocked around too many times” and needed to protect herself.

May Bell Boyce, the owner of Murfreesboro Road Liquor and Wines, was arrested last week on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. According to police, Boyce shot a man Tuesday night who she thought was trying to steal from her business.

totally advocate gun education, every person in my home, practice shooting every gun in my home regularly, We go to a indoor range several times per month, and frequently take the rifles to the BLM land that is designated for shooting.

Training, practice, practice, practice..... We decided together that our carry guns was going to be a Glock model 19 9mm. Myself, wife and son all carry the same model, practice regular.....

and then there are some like this little old lady, that never shot one, and then to make matters worse, shoots him in the back.

she needs to be at home, living out her last years. that is, if she doesn't get the crap sued outta her

The net effect of allowing the criminal act to go unpunished or putting unreasonable limits on law enforcement is going to be a migration from crime ridden to safe areas. The country will be further divided. Now that many companies have learned that they don't have to physically be in a Seattle, or a San Francisco and their employees can be located anywhere, watch the commercial real estate market tank in those areas. If you are old enough, like this old fart, you have seen white flight before, when bussing started in the 1960's, along with the same riots. Didn't take long to destroy dozens of cities that have yet to recover.

If she claims mental illness then the first thing the authorities will ask is what the h*** is she doing with a firearm. They’ll see that thru BS a mile away.

Tell me more about treating politics like a football game. Then explain why judges are a locally elected position and they're the ones directly responsible for sentencing yet you can't hold them accountable

I’ll tell you another story about theft.

My buddy Brian owned a AJ Barnes biycycle emporium store.

Really nice store about 200 feet to the side of me in the same strip mall

One day I am hanging out at the back doors breaking down some boxes of of my now furniture store.

All of a sudden I see Brian busting out of his back door and running towards the far back corner of the building.

Out around the corner pops these 2 guys running, one with a large box and another with what I learned later is a whole display stand of Oakley sunglasses

They are running towards my end of the mall because there is an entrance road to a neighborhood behind us that is about in the middle of the building

I instinctively started running after them and quickly caught up with short little portly Brian who yells out they stole all his Oakley sunglasses.

So Brian falls behind and the guy running with the display rack drops them and keeps running behind a house

I turn around long enough to yell back at Brian that his glasses are out here in the lawn , than turn around and keep pursuing the guy with the box.

Now the whole neighborhood is a maze of canals with a lot of undeveloped lots. We enter an area where there is nothing to hide behind and the guy is winded but still walking with the box and I am a block behind him and winded also but keep on him.

I finally have him trapped in a dead end surrounded by canals and he than drops the box and jumps into the canal.

My dumb young adrenaline filled self grabs the box and dumps it into the brush and jump into the canal also.

Now there are Reeds and a lot of pepperhedge growing over the banks of the canal and I can’t find him.

I am searching and searching searching than I see this shadow under the water and this no BS. This guy is breathing thru a reed.

I jump on him and get him in a choke hold in what is about 5 feet of water.

Brian shows up with the police and finds us10 minutes later.

Cops haul the guy away. We fill out descriptions of incident. Cops find other guy couple hours later.

Brian gets his $7500 worth of sunglasses back with little damage to a few pairs

Needless to say they wanted us to go to court and testify against these guys to prosecute them months later

Brian said screw it, he got his merchandise back.

Too much hassle to do anything within the law.

Don’t even get me started about people writing bad checks back in the day.

Doealex, bigguns and buddyd157 Thank this.
