The law hasn't suddenly spring up like a dandelion from a crack in the concrete after a rainy weekend. It's evolved over thousands of years from millions of different individual tests of circumstance. It's time tested. When it does need changing we have an involved system to do so.
It's centered upon what a reasonable person would do. Using deadly force against an unarmed thief, stealing $40 of product, who is running away isn't reasonable.
This lady had options. She could have installed security cameras she trusted. She could have installed a magnetic door lock accessible from behind the counter. She could have gotten commercial insurance.
Idiotic. She's out $40. If you genuinely feel like that you have no business carrying in public.
This isn't BLM rioters throwing Molotov ####tails in your neighborhood. It's petty theft.

I wasn’t referring to this store or this woman. But Bleeders are always going to bleed, aren’t they?
-
No such thing as petty theft. You steal from me, what I worked hard to acquire, then your life is forfeit.
Stealing is a conscious act, you have to choose to steal, and in that choice you choose to live, or die, with the consequences of said choice.dwells40, TokyoJoe, AModelCat and 1 other person Thank this. -
How many times did this person steal a bottle. The shopkeeper should have the right to defend the store.
Thief shot in the back is no different than a thief shot in the chest.
Either way it's a dead thief that won't do it again.
Justice needs to be returned to the lawless concrete jungles. -
Why not ban that person from the store? Even if it was legal to shoot someone for theft in a store, I don’t think anything in that store is worth so much so as to warrant a bullet.

what about a child, that doesn't know any better, and grabs that candy bar form the bottom shelf?
believe me, i've been at the local CVS store and seen little tykes grab the candy..
blow them away.??
what about kleptomaniacs. they cannot control thier sickness...blow them away..??
one has to choose thier battles wisely.
yes, everything has a cost attached to it, from the time it left the factory.
stolen items only go to increase the cost for replacement to the store, then to the customers.
but to shoot someone running away, amounts to murder, assault charges, and civil lawsuits.
would that $1.50 candy bar really be worth YOUR time, money, defending your actions..????bigguns, gentleroger and PE_T Thank this. -
So you have no problem with someone pumping out you fuel from your tanks? What about helping themselves to your tarps? Chains? Dunnage?
I don't think any of that is worth much, at least to me.
It's not mine nor your job to decide how much someone's work is worth. If they feel it's worth shooting a criminal over, that's their decision.Last edited: Jun 27, 2020

Obviously teaching is the better option. I don't think many are suggesting children and adults are treated the same.
Yes they can. They can choose not to go places where they can easily steal from. They choose to go there, so they choose the
results of their action.
Luckily I live in a state I don't have to simply let criminals get away with their criminal activity.AModelCat Thanks this. -

You certainly can't shoot the thief before they grab the merchandise.
When they are too cowardly to face the owner. Not many options.
Continue to be a Patsy for these crimes or....
You can't beat them with a ball bat!
Justice served.
