I am at the docks, getting the run around. Before I load, they have to take my empty weight and then my loaded weight after. The cost is $12, and they accept cash only. I have to leave the docks and drive up to a nearby Exxon to hit up an ATM. I park in a staging lot for reefers waiting to get loaded. On my way back to my truck, I see a driver sitting in a brand new Volvo. The driver is looking at me. I then notice what appears to be a huge gaping hole in the top of the Volvo. WTF???

I slow my pace and study the hole in the roof. The driver has the look of disgust on his face. We both bust out laughing at the same time. I walk over to the driver's door...

    Six: Driver, WTF happened?

Driver: I hate this town! My GPS got me in trouble!

Six: You had to hit something that was around 11'5! You didnt see any low clearance signs or truck restricted roadsigns or anything?

Driver: No! There were no signs.

Six: That overpass you hit had to look like it was eye level tho. Geez!!!! Are you loading here??????

Driver: Yes. This is my 2nd load.

    Six: New driver?

    Driver: Yes.

    (Starts to rain heavy)

Six: well, I gotta run. Wish you luck...

(I walk away towards my truck. I turn around and see the driver still sitting in the seat as the rains pour down. I had to laugh out loud again. Unbelievable...he's going to sit there and load. First cop that sees him will probably laugh too.)

there is a low overpass here in Denver, used to be 11'6, recently they changed it to 11'4. Oh well, at least once a week a truck taller than 11'4 tries to make it, and well, at least once a week another truck heads to a body shop. I loved watching a guy get out of mid-rise Volve one day and measure his truck and then measure the overpass, he wasn't sure what to do.

I had antennas on my truck that were the same height as my trailer. If I wasn't sure about an overpass, I could go slow and watch my antennas. They would rub before the trailer would. Lots of low overpasses in PA too.

Instead of blindly relying on GPS some of these geniuses ought to look out the window now and then.

When an overpass is low it always looks...LOW!
