So I just had the valve covers pulled to have the overhead adjusted and mack said that the camshaft and the rockers have rust.

They also said that it saw signs of pushing coolant but I don't know what that means.

    What causes this?

    Thank you

What do you know of its history. Have you been adding coolant?

I gave up and ran away from that tractor.

    Thank you for asking though!

    Yeah hopefully.

Buying a used tractor is quite the ordeal.

All these newer engines seem to have their own unique problems. For what it’s worth, I’ve been told, by an Engineer at Detroit, that since 2017, they’ve made good advances with emissions. Somewhat caught up with the Government mandate. I don’t know, if the engines he’s referring to are in 2017, or 2018 Trucks. But coming straight from a Guy whose Job is working out bugs in the system. It’s worth a little research, if you do consider a Detroit. Seems either real new, or real old. 2006-7 through 2016-17, just seem plagued with huge repair bills, after 500k.

mp8 is not detroit, the presence of coolant in the system is determined by the test, this is bad, but it seems to be covered by the manufacturer’s waranty

The used truck dealer was trying to say that it was no big deal but it scared me anyway.

I've never seen rust in the overhead.

    I bought a 579 anyway and I love it so it's irrelevant.

I would've bought the Mack. It only had 313K miles so that seemed like a red flag also.

Why were they getting rid of it at 313 K?

    Thanks

you made the right choice - I suggested a possible option, but in any case it’s repair and time
