I had to word the question a bit differently so it would not get moved again. At least now you guys know what I am asking about. Too bad no one has done it. I would really like to know how it was working out just in case the UPS Freight gig that I have been working on does not work out.

Its the "logistics" side of Prime. My understanding is you are an owner-operator who is "leasing onto" Prime using their authority. Basically its the same revenue deal as their traditional lease program shifted slightly to 27% to Prime -73% to the owner operator, plus fuel surcharge. Other than that, you're responsible for your costs - you can cut a deal with their insurance, or get your own; you get to use Primes fuel network and you get their discounts. Prime books the freight, and you get to pick what you want to haul... not sure if there are any guarantees or special deals available. Best thing would be to call the leasing office (they handle everything from company truck assignements to lease ops to owner ops) and ask them about it.

Do the research. Do get a copy of the contract and have an attorney look at. Do put together a business plan, know what your costs are, and where your bottom line is before you get into this. -
englewoodcowboy runs his own authority and pulls prime trailers. it's the same deal will trans has basicly. I don't know anything about it though and he's not around too much anymore

You're not really leased on to them with your own authority. It's more like a contract to haul their trailers, and then you can benefit from their fuel savings, etc. Otherwise you can still haul for them with out the contract. You can haul freight from most of the larger companies out there. Most have a logistics website with a load board on it. Like I said earlier, I've seen JB Hunt advertise for O/O with own authority to handle freight out of GA before. They said they could keep you running regional or 48 states. There is a lot of this out there, just not much of it advertised.

If anyone happens to hear from englewood cowboy, have him send me a message so I can talk with him.
Or let me know and I give you my number to pass along to him.
Thanks -
PM one of the moderators. They will be able to pass your number to his PM inbox so he will get it when he shows up. I see him occasionally on here.

This seems to be what JB is doing now. They allow you to use there trl's and if they cant load you, you can find your on freight. They do charge for the use of their trl unless you are pulling their freight. Must have your on authority to do it. Ive been told that CRE does this as well.

I do this alot with schneider national.its called power plus. works out pretty well most of the time. they get sad when you don't want there load tho.kinda funny when the truck sez goossen transport on the door schneider on the trailer and it's a jb hunt load.lol

Is this because of a large abundance of trailers out there sitting? Are the big co's just trying to make something out them?
