Trucker charged with negligent homicide in Oklahoma wreck that killed 10

76???????? someone PLEASE tell me that's a typo!!!

can anyone digest this and make an argument that there should be NO age restrictions to sling a 40 ton rolling weapon down the hiway? 76 year old security guard where they have no real responsibility, yes. 76 year OLD grandfather/great grandfather driving an 18 wheeler who ends up murdering 10 people? HELL NO!!!!!!!!

 

Yeah, that's pretty old... Unfortunately we don't often have very reliable retirement plans and are barely making it paycheck to paycheck...Which reminds me, i'm opening an IRA LOL!

I wouldn't call it Murder, that's harsh.. But yeah, it's messed up. This is definitely an instance where i agree with the prosecution... To just slam into people like that is.... wow, not sure what to call it...

 

it won't be charged as murder, but 10 people are dead who shouldn't be. and a lot of people in positions who could've prevented this let a clearly senile/blind/crippled/stupid/inattentive old man drive a humongous, heavy vehicle which he should NOT have been allowed to drive. and he'll quite likely go to jail (not prison) and not get out until he's 86. this is just a sad, needless tragedy all the way around.

 

What does it say for direction this country has taken since the early 80s? People having to work into their 70s to eke out a living. Jobs are shipped overseas and then folks look for work in an industry that will hire people into their 70s. At the age of 50 I lost my job at automotive parts supplier and joined the trucking industry because there was a demand for truck drivers. I am very grateful of the opportunity however, the the health of truckers is largely overlooked. Sometimes I think, if you have a C-Pap machine and your heart beats, you are good to drive.

 

This is a tragedy for both the families the trucker and people he hit. Their lives will never be the same. My thoughts and prayers are with them.

After reading the article, I'm torn by this thought. A 76 year old man still working lends me to wonder what the underlying reason is he's still doing this. Was it necessary for him to support himself or to support others? Why would his family allow him to continue working such a strenuous and fatiguing job?

If this was my father, I would have stepped in a number of years ago - no matter how head strong he may be...

 

BullHaulers wife has it right, there was clearly something wrong medically with him. I,m sure the 76 year old doesn,t work like a young man anymore. You see a few 70 year olds out west and they,re very safe drivers. My Grandpa was in the hospital for months, they lived in the country. My Grandma wanted to start driving again, so she could get her groceries, go to church, and visit friends. So she waited until I came home, the last time she drove was 30 years ago, she drove me to kindergarton. Granny did a great job driving, she had very good driving skill and we worked on defensive driving skills, more worried about some young people running stop signs,than her driving focus. If old people have decent vision and good brain function, there really focused on being safe drivers, they know everyone wants them off the road. But there are some old people that are determined to drive interstate 900 mi. trips and don,t realize there a danger, but that,s why were professionals to make sure everyone makes there journey safely.

 

This accident was terrible...my BIL lives nearby, and was stuck in the traffic right behind it.
He said it was awful. (the accident, not the back-up)

I agree that the old gent must have been suffering some medical problems... you just don't get THAT confused, at any age, unless there is some medical thing going on..IMHO.
