Here's something one of my mentors just posted on twitter:
Here are some bits of advice that I have received in my coaching career that I found especially helpful:
Be yourself – Define yourself and be the best you, you can be. No one can fault you for this.
Coach the person, not the shot putter, basketball player of swimmer.
Know the basics. Master the basics. Never deviate from the basics.
Make the champions choice. Invest in the process, no shortcuts. Being comfortable with being uncomfortable is the champions way.
These recommendations are very straight forward, nothing complicated and very basic. They have served me well for 51 years.

I'm not sure I agree here, being uncomfortable with the uncomfortable sounds more like complacency. Tire tread is less than DOT allowed "oh well our company doesn't run good equipment anyways". This isn't breaking rough stock, it's an industry where we dictate our safety. If you're "comfortable with the uncomfortable" you're choosing to act outside of safe measures.

I think people are being to hard. Turning a simple answer into this big deal. Just log is as you do it. Next time just use PC to get to safe place park when you run out of HOS at pickup or delivery.
No you can't really stop the 14 hour clock. That's the point of the 14 hour limit. Because drivers and companies use just change log books and run all crazy hoursbeastr123, farmerjohn64 and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
When you're on your third company one would expect you to understand the basics, and this the most basic of basics.FerrissWheel, Dockbumper, skellr and 1 other person Thank this.

He's referring to the 'comfort zone.' If you stay in your comfort zone, you will never improve in anything. Therefore if you become comfortable with being uncomfortable, it means that you are constantly seeking to improve.farmerjohn64, gentleroger, InTooDeep and 3 others Thank this.

Yes, but, he is here now asking questions after being let down twice already. The questions he asks are good ones, I don't think it was him that was the problem. It just shows how bad things are getting in the industry in regards to training.
John isn't going to let it happen again. -
I agree. There've been several posts and threads about how crappy trainers are these days. There's only a few out there I know for sure are doing a good job. @FerrissWheel is one I think is top notch.

Yeah I agree, I do accept that anything that’s happened is my fault/responsibility, but should stop kicking the can down the road and accept the buck stops with me so to speak. Today is a lot better at leastLast edited: Jun 30, 2020
FerrissWheel, TripleSix and 650cat425 Thank this. -
Lmao oh hell no, I understand now, not gonna be on the side of the road with no time left again; I always leave an hour + window to find somewhere to park, but didn’t yesterday because I thought I had more time, silly me. Well I’d respond to more posts but I gotta runkemosabi49, Numb, skellr and 1 other person Thank this.

As Six said, it's not about pushing the envelope about safe and legal, but pushing yourself to be better.
It's taking the goat path from Dunkirk, NY to Harrisburg PA - same fuel usage as the big road, no tolls, and an hour faster.
It's running a familiar route without your gps.
Its backing into a spot instead hitting the easy pull through or creating a spot on the curb.
Its GOALing, even believe you know you are fine and there is a line a trucks waiting.
Its standing up to the Chairborne Brigade.
If a driver is not comfortable being uncomfortable then he will be pushed around, he will run substandard equipment, and it is doubtful he will ever make a good life for himself.TripleSix, Wasted Thyme, dunchues and 4 others Thank this.
