i was talkin to a guy i work with, hes 22 and a dockworker, hes younger and dumber then some of you might think i am

he said most truck drivers make atleast $25 an hour.....and there gone for weeks at a time and gettin paid 24 hours a day even when there sleeping.....plus they get like 50 cents for every mile they drive

which would put the average truckers salary, a wild guess, around $2 million a year:smt017

i tried explaining it to him but he just wouldnt listen

You would be wasting your time to continue trying to explain.

lol this is why there are so many random newbies coming into the trucking industry... people tell them these things which may be true for some but definitely not for all truckers.

Well I'm 1 wannabe that knows better than that.

From what I have seen and been told even by the few truckers I have in my family. It can pay well (you ain't going to get rich) & It is what you make of it. The 2 cousins that I have that are Truckers, 1 is an O/O and runs local and makes a decent living, The other well we won't even discuss him. Let's just say he stays at home more than in a truck.

My biggest reason to want to make the jump is the rookie pay doesn't fall off much from what I make now with 20yrs experience in my industry. In a 9-5 position I usually make $42-48k/yr

I here most 1-2yr drivers are making $35-45kyr as Company Drivers.

I hear Most 5+yr Company Drivers are making about $45-55k/yr.

I personally would prefer O/O after 2-3yrs as a Company Driver and I hear those guys that actually get out there and run are making $60-80k after they pay all the bills.

I wouldn't call that Rich by a long stretch BUT it is good pay.

Please correct me if I'm way off on any of those numbers.
