After going back and re-reading this entire kick Rob while he's down fest.

Which I absolutely don't agree with in the slightest.

I'm reminded of my very own safety director at my company who has absolutely.......ZERO........truck driving experience yet has the authority to tell us drivers how to.........<fill in the blank>

Safety directors or those who offer after action critiques are..........just voicing an opinion. They weren't there and are only going off of hearsay. At best these types can only spout off about what they've read in some book or heard in some class. They are the world famous......"I told you so types".........It's a geography thing....if you weren't there....you just don't know the entire story.

And while it's true that me pointing out the obvious went right over some peoples heads...I'll refrain from trying to do so again.

Experience comes with time. Mistakes and mishaps come along with the deal. Not learning from these dictates the necessity to repeat these things again......It's a history thing. Doing the same thing....the same way...over and over again......while expecting different results.......

    IS INSANITY

gotcha. but i'm pretty sure if not positive tha he IS going to be a truck driver. in my eyes he already is.. not a mechanically inclined driver but a truck driver none the less.. if truck drivers had levels (1 being rookie, and 5 being that old do no tries to tell anything cause he knows everything) i'd she he sure would be a one anymore. he's not grinding gears, or walking over curbs with his trailer (anymore) or standing in the middle of a town with a big ole map tryin to find his way.

but then at the same time he wouldn't be a four either jus for the simple fact he hasn't really grasp the concept of maintaince portion of being a driver yet. but he's coming into his own..

i mean lately everyone's tellin him how he should've did this or how he should've done that.. where was all of these great suggestions when he was researching all of this at the beginning.. instead all he got was "No, it wont happen, dont try it". people made it seem as if though he was destined to fail. and now he's trippin off into some serious pot holes people are being quick to point and say "i told ya so" like they're going to get some kind of forum credit.

no one has said jack about the guys who've done the same exact thing as Rob but are still going strong.. Thread has been dead quiet about them. i dont see it as so much as Rob being ate up, but more as a series of negative events compunded with a lack of (either it being knowledge, warning, or money) or a combination of...

everyone else is doing pretty well for the most part, they come in, leave a lil comment, and keep rolling. so it really doesn't have anything to do with him being new to the game.

jus how i see it, but once again i tend to look at things too hard. mia daddy say it's gonna take me far :biggrin_2559:

I was just searching for poops and giggles for some research for myself. Per Ryder's website and online rate quote,a tandem axle tractor with a sleeper goes for $400 per week plus .07 cpm(first 500 miles free) I made figures at a 4 week month and 10,000 miles as being right around 2300 per month just for the rental.(minus the free first 500 miles). Seems like a pretty steep way to go. Thats about .22-.23 cpm just to the truck rental. Maybe they would cut a deal for a long term rental but it doesnt seem like a real cost effective way to go for a single truck operation in my book even if they are taking care of maintenance for ya. Add .40-.50 cpm per mile for fuel depending on the price and you are looking at a pretty good sized operating expense before you even factor in insurance and trailer if you dont own one....and dont forget taxes. just my 2 cents since this issue came up. I can see doing this to keep the operation going on a short term for emergencies or maybe for a very short period to start your business untill you can stash away a down payment for your own ride but as a long term solution it seems like a good way to get rid of a bunch of money. For that kind of money every month you could be in a brand new truck. Oh well, back to normally scheduled programing. Sorry for the out of route miles :biggrin_25525:
