300 miles is about 6 hours maybe 5 hours. Remember the Walmart driver that was off duty like 34+ hours and killed someone ? He thought he could drive all night.
Abe was smart enough to admit he was sleepy and try to stop. The company could care less because all they seemed to care about was running the truck. The company could have said. We don't have a load today, do you want till tomorrow. That's the problem, they don't ask. They hide behind the truth, of they don't care if your tired. They says it's legal so you should be able to run. They are taking the human factor out. The video shows how they really think and try to force drive to run even when the know they are sleepy. They could have said ok, you will lose see your guaranteed pay and have to sit on the load till we can a new appointment. Their was many possible outcomes. They could have avoided the whole thing from the start of they wanted to. -
Ok......to be fair, I get what you're saying, but 300 miles is nothing. In this line of work, you have to be able to switch back and forth. It's the name of the game. It's too many drivers that want to get into a set routine on the road. I doubt that he slept for the whole 10 hrs anyway. I have learned to switch back and forth. Plus, K&B is a reefer company, which means a lot of night operation and irregular sleep. If he got his dispatch that morning, he had time to get a nap in. He knew the plan. If they waited til later, at some point he should have at least tried to nap during the day. You have to think, "the day is getting away from me, and by the time it gets to the afternoon, I may end up running a little tonight." In trucking, a driver has to have some sense of anticipation if he/she is going to make money. The Walmart driver drove way more than 300 miles. That was totally messed up there. He mismanaged his time. What that driver should have done was communicated with his company, prior to picking up the load and got it repowered.
