Are Extended Warranties Worth It? NTP

Would you say the same for a Freightliner OEM extended warranty?

 

No. That's a good warranty.

OEM or Manufacturer Warranty = good.

After Market or NTP = bad.

I've heard guys say they had stuff fixed with the NTP. My personal experience is they didn't fix ####. You also have to get them to authorize it, before it's fixed.

Manufacturer you drop it off and go," When will it be ready?"

That NTP covers like pistons, crank, stuff that doesn't break a whole lot.

Does it cover stuff that can be hugely expensive that does break a lot ( gaskets, seals, wiring ) = no.

 

My first truck, I purchased an extended warranty. During the warranty, the turbo went up $2500 repair, and the output shaft bearing on the transmission went and damaged the output shaft, $2500 repair. This was in the 1st year, so the warranty was definitely worth it

 

What is the cost of this warranty and how long does it last in op's case with a 2016 with 350 on it?

Also, what would an OEM warranty cost IF it was available to op with the same 2016 with 350 on it.

I'm asking because I'll be making this decision in the next month. I'll likely end up with a 17 or 18 with just under 400 on it.

It was a long time ago, I think it may have been $2500. But if I remember correctly, the $2500 included the turbo and egr cooler in the warranty. The regular warranty only included all internally lubricated parts in the engine, transmission, and rears. I don't remember the length of the warranty

 

Save your money.

3rd party warranty companies are in the business to make money.

Read the contracts fine print before making the decision.

Most of them only cover a labor rate of around $100/hour, you pay the difference. You have to pay a deductible everytime truck is in shop $250 or so.

They dont cover any shop fees, nuts, bolts, clamps, zip ties, disposal fees, nor this or that...

Certain shops wont even deal with them.

If you're purchasing the truck from a dealership, the salesman will claim it's the best thing since sliced bread, but he wont tell you that he receives a commission from selling it to you...

I made the mistake once, wont happen again.
