    Hey everyone!

My name is Sean and I am a recently furloughed Airline Pilot. Unfortunately, during this "hard-economic" time, no one is hiring a pilot or two anymore. So, I've turned to something else my family is familiar with besides the military. I come from a long line of OTR O/O and Co. Drivers for numerous companies throughout the years.

I've come in seek of a better life as my airline recently announced they will be furloughing another 700 pilots. So, until a reputable company begins to hire pilots again, I'm choosing a different path, for now. All advice is appreciated, and any tips from you seasoned vets would be great.

I've already been pre-approved, I suppose would be the term, by CR England. I've read the horror stories and am ready to get a beat down on here. It's my only hope, right now, because SWIFT hasn't called me, and I'm strapped for cash. So the "financing" option is great right now. Don't worry, I will be a Company driver, not a Lessor. I know far too much about that as it is. That's exactly why my airline is furloughing us, because they can't make payments on our airplanes!

Again, I look forward to advice and any tips!

    Very Respectfully,

    Sean D

    Welcome aboard!
Funny that you mention approved by CRE and beat down on here. My opinion is you go to CRE and a beating is what you will get. You are going from a classy top notch transporter (pilot) to the arm pit of trucking (CRE) You would be better off tossing luggage on your last gig than piloting one of those ate up machines from utahs tarmack...:biggrin_2556:

Well, I've tried applying as a ramp agent with numerous airlines, and supposedly Southwest loves my experience, but it isn't what they're looking for. Can someone explain that for me? I've got 5 years ramp experience with UPS and Delta... umm, Hello!?! I busted my buns working for UPS in the middle of the night loading containers into airplanes and tossing, I mean stacking (lol), boxes into trucks during college.

I appreciate anything I can get, but I just need a temporary filler, no offense to career drivers. The only thing I will lose is my currency as a pilot and will be rusty as all hell, but it'll all come back sooner, rather than later. Supposedly, I will lose my dignity as a driver with CRE, too.

And, NoTarps, Thanks for considering my profession "classy" and "top-notch". It makes a Pilot's day to hear that. Believe it or not, we don't hear that on our flights. Hardly any thanks or anything.

Your welcome! My dad was a pilot. (piper cub) Cesna's sp? I reckon the airline feels you are over qualified as a pilot to be a ramp agent.

I just seen your age, Dang your young for a pilot. I still have my dad's license. He was 16 when he got his. He was born in 1928.

Well, the breakdown is this: 16 to solo, 17 for private, 18 for commercial, and 23 for Airline Transport Pilot. I'm Commercial Airplane, Single and Multi-Engine Land, Instrument Airplane, CFI/II/MEI (Flight instructor single and multi-engine, and instrument instructor), and type rated on three jets, so far. Just a short resume just in case anyone is looking for a pilot ;-) . I flew for a relatively large regional airline in smaller "commuter jets" as people would call them. Take a look at my photos and you'll see what I'm used to doing.

That's awesome you have your Dad's license. Treasure that because you never know when Pilots won't be needed anymore. Sad to say, but its true.
