Hi, I'm interested in becoming a truck driver. The last few weeks I've been skimming the posts here. Right now, I'm in the process of looking for a truck driving school. The only one that I've found that is close (one hour driving) and PTDI accredited is All State Career is Lester PA (anyone have opinions on this place, be it good or bad?). Everything else PTDI accredited is 2 hours or more away, and I'd still be working a full-time job while going to school, so I'd like to avoid those.

My question is, is PTDI important when looking for a school? Could I be passing up a good school that doesn't have that accreditation? The other place I've been considering (since I remember reading it's advisable to go to a community college/vo-tech for training) is Upper Bucks Area Vo-Tech, and they have a program that is SAGE accredited but NOT PTDI. What's the deal with SAGE?

Basically, I want the most for my money for the schools in my area (I'm in Trenton, NJ) I can pay my own way, that's not an issue. But I really do want the best training, to be safe, etc. Just trying to find out where to start and what you guys suggest. Thanks and sorry if this seems redundant.

PTDI certified schools will open many more doors as far as companies go than one that is not PTDI. They have very high standards and are regarded highly with many if not all companies.

Sage courses ARE ALL PTDI certified. The campus that the school is on may not be, but the Sage corporation curriculum IS.

I know this because the Sage school I want to attend is not listed on the PTDI website. So I called the school and they told me all Sage cirriculms are PTDI certified. Well, I decided to contact PTDI themselve to verify this and sure enough it's true.

    BTW,

It's been said many times on this and other forums that before you choose a school, research and find a company that fits your needs. Then contact that company and ask them if they would hire you from what ever school you wish to attend.

There are many companies that only hire from certain schools period. It would suck to spend hundreds, if not thousands of $$ on a school only to find out AFTER the fact that the company you want to hire on with does NOT accept that school. Then you end up SETTLING for a lesser comapay.

Thank you. I've met with the school I plan to attend and sure enough the companies I've been looking into the most, Crete and Roehl, do hire from there.
