I have decided to get a truck GPS and I think the garmin dezl is probably the best product.
From there I have a some confusion about what model to get.
Why do they have so many confusing letters after the model number?
I have read that they only update for 2 or 3 years so in buying them I can't tell whether I have the newest current model or whether that model is from last year. How do you tell?
So I am looking at the 780 or 785 LMT S. It looks to me like the differences are that the 785 has a camera.
Here's what I'm looking for:
7" screen. Connects through my phone for real-time traffic. Control with your voice.
Bluetooth hands-free calling is probably a good idea but I think I can do that with my phone itself.
I like the idea of having the camera but that comes with active Lane guidance. I wonder if it's going to drive me out of my mind every time I get close to the line on the road. I wonder if you can shut that off.
Anyway any other models to consider? How do I know if it's a 2020 current model?

Did you look at garmins website? Tgat should tell you. I’ve got a dezl 570 and rarely use it. I use googly maps on my fone.

I purchased the new model garmin 7.0. It’s the replacement for the 780.
I immediately updated it via wifi. I’m surprised at how good it is. I still check several other sources for my route plan though.
I haven’t really messed with it that much, but I’d like to turn off its trip clock, and I lose a 1/3 of the screen when I get a call. I don’t need to Bluetooth phone call through it. I probably should read the manual.
I like to though.Dino soar Thanks this. -
I have one but like my.Rand McNally much better. The Dezl.l seemed like a car GPS with a trucker add on. I never could get it to show the truck stops/rest areas on my route ..it always showed the ones everywhere near me..just wasn't user friendly

A little OT but I have an airplane icon top of 780 screen. Normally this would lead me to believe the device is in airplane mode. How do I get rid if the airplane icon?

LMT means Lifetime Map updated included.
I have a 580 DEZL.
Generally I like it, but don't ever trust a GPS device alone.
It shows me some convoluted routes on occasion. Once it wanted me to drive a big circle for 94 miles to go somewhere that was only 17 miles away using a good gravel road.
I still like a standard road map to look at for the bigger picture.All-American82 and Timin770 Thank this. -
I've had a Garmin dezl 570 I think for about 5 yrs, it still updates all the time, I just updated the maps a few months ago, the firmware needs an update, I just need to remember to set it to update before I go home at night

There is a selection to pick your interested items near you, your Destiination, or along route. All you have to do is use your finger to change from near you to whichever selection you want.
