Unless your engine is an L10, Volvo is wrong.
The big cam engines are identical 855 cubic inch heavy duty truck engines.
The only differences between them are the compression ratio, the timing, the Pistons, the turbo, the injectors, and the the pump calibration.
In other words the block is the same but the internals that create the power are interchangeable but different depending on the horsepower.
Now if you have an L 10 that is a different situation. That is a medium duty engine.
If you are not sure which it is you can trace it by the CPL tag which is on the accessory drive or by the serial number that is on the block under the head on the driver side.
All of the big cam engine blocks are stamped big cam down near the cam followers.650cat425 Thanks this. -

The tag says 855. That is the cubic inch displacement of the big cam.
And whatever you do if you're going to turn the horsepower up learn all that's involved with the dangers and whatnot and make a good decision.
Don't just turn the fuel up or change the button. -

My old man ran a CAT 3406 PCTA, rated at 375 hp with no issues grossing near 88k lbs in the mountains. You may not be the quickest up the hill but you'll make it.

Your gearing has a lot to do with how the truck will pull.

Just called my volvo expert, and they said (based on the VIN) they're geared at 3.55
shouldn't that be 355? or is the period supposed to be there?
