Does anyone know if your are required to have a CDL for your job, is your employer responsible for your sleep apnea testing costs? I was in between insurances when I started and I had 90 days to get my testing done and the day I left my last job my insurance with them stopped and I had 60 days til my new insurance started. Now I have $9000 in bills that I had to have because of my job.

No, sleep apnea machine is on you. Although if you're lucky your company will help out. I know mine did, they paid for mine and got a huge discount rate and they were gonna take it out in increments on my check. Appointment and the machine itself came to be $900 and I paid them the whole amount in full. Depends on how helpful your company is. But it's your responsibility to get the machine.

I haven’t even gotten a machine yet, I don’t think I’m going to considering the thousands I already owe, I’ll have to get with my company and see if they are willing to help. I’m not counting on it though.

If your sleep study came back that you need a machine, you may have trouble with your medical card if you don't use a machine. Could keep you from driving.
IF you do have sleep apnea, it is for your benefit to get tested and then use a machine. That being said, the FMCSA does not require any testing to be done. Congress specifically told them not to, though they have skirted that with some of the guidance issued to examiners. If you are going to work for a company that wants you to use a specific examiner you may have to get tested. Always better to find out before hand and just not consider those companies, unless like @truckdriver31 said, the company will pay for it.
And if you do have to test, they have home studies that cost way less and are approved.

I did an at home study, but I still had to go in and do a sleep study so that they could “get my pressure settings”. The in office sleep study is the most expensive portion of the bills. They charged $8000 just for that one night.

They make the un-insured subsidize the others that they have contracts with. I would try to negotiate something a lot lower with them. They billed Medicare over $5000 when I had my studies done. 5k for the first one then 5K for the second one to get the pressures. Medicare allow $800 for the first test of which my share was 20%. Then they disallowed the second test. Said they should have got both done on the first test.
Private insurance might pay more to the sleep center, but not much. So when you talk to them do some research and tell them you won't pay more than the insurance companies and Medicare/Medicaid do.
