I heard that you could adopt a mustang from Nevada...I wish I had larger backyard and lived more outwest to where I am now ---where the zoning and space would allow me to have one...she would know what to do with the clover patch....Dream on old boy.

You don't have to come west to get an affordable piece of land and live for much less than you do currently in Illinois. I moved from southern Ohio 44 years ago, and my childhood farm with a completely remodeled 4 bedroom house, 2 barns on 200 acres can be had for around $200,000. There are deals like that everywhere, and with tech people no longer being tethered to big expensive cities because they can now work from home, that home can be anywhere. Just about anywhere in the rust belt which has been depressed for decades has cheap homes.Dino soar, Dave_in_AZ, Truckermania and 3 others Thank this.

I will need to look into it. I don't see myself here when I get older. Not only property taxes but the overall proximity to the big city is wearing me down. I am a small town guy and having a barn or two on the property sounds good to me.Dino soar, 77fib77, Dave_in_AZ and 4 others Thank this.

I was raised in the country and never lived in a big city. Where I'm at now is a suburb of San Francisco, and while it use to be nice to visit the city on occasion and do tourist things, it's not any longer. Living close to a city is a pain in the butt, especially with traffic and taxes. While I raised my three kids here, I wish they could have had my upbringing because life certainly is much better in the country. Retirement in the country sounds very appealing.Dino soar, Dave_in_AZ, TallJoe and 2 others Thank this.

You just can’t beat it out in the small rural towns. I can get down town in 25 or 30 mins max but I still live on over an acre and shop my local grocery and gas station. No mask for me. Oh, want to pay cash? No problem.
Everyone has gone mask crazy in the corporate stores and many won’t accept cash anymore. My states Governor did a mask mandate and I swear it went from 30% usage to maybe 10%. People don’t like to be told what to do out in these parts. It’s nice to still feel somewhat “free”.
Next year my plan is to move onto a 75 acre piece and truly do whatever I want with nobody watching in on my private life. I highly advise getting out of the city!D.Tibbitt, tommymonza, Dave_in_AZ and 5 others Thank this. -
Always finding the bright side....at least during these most challenging times, my grocery shopping is a snap.
