It's silly to argue about personal opinions... I think... There are some people like that... But I have been coming to this forum since 2007 and then became a member in 2008 and most of the folks I find here are nice, polite and respectful of each others.... But I don't give much attention to comments that I find inappropriate or silly... or angry.... and I pick and choose which threads to visit... There's A LOT of good and helpful information here and sincere opinions... I read what matters to me and leave the rest...
BTW... WELCOME to TTR Mr. @Dockbumper ... :biggrin_25519:

I agree... but some people do see that as a job... just a job.... I remember one older experienced trucker member here tell me that I had that "romantic" idea of living on the road and driving a truck into the sunset.... blah, blah, blah... I guess he did that for too many decades and lost his passion...

As a new local driver I can say I miss the road but not all the bs that comes with it. My hometime is unmatched. Even when I’m on the clock I am less than an hour from home and get to try out all the little spots I seen when I get off.
As a new driver in the fuel industry I’ve learned it’s exactly like being a rookie again. Nobody want to pay you top dollar, and hauling a “giant bomb”( some reason people say that like they just spontaneously combust all the time, like oh gas truck it’s about a blowup omg smh) (you respect the gas it respects you.) but most companies if hourly offer a low number because 1. You have to get carded at all the facilities. 2 you have to be able to reliably pull product, you load marathon branded and you were supposed to load unbranded. You suddenly got you self 12,000 gallons of the wrong product. 3. You must prove that you can reliably put the right product in the right tank, sounds simple but you wouldn’t believe the stories I’ve heard. And 4. You must prove that you can get in and out of these stations with out tearing up your truck. If by the load you aren’t gonna make much any way until your fast and good at what you do. With that being said with experience in the fuel industry that number goes up and rather quickly I’m 28 and The average guy at the rack is 50+ and they always say I wish I would’ve gotten into this when I was your age and take your time keep the record clean and the money will be there. Also a lot of good job opportunities come from at the rack, other drivers seeing you working, jobs that won’t get posted. Once you got your cards and you prove yourself, these companies have to compete to keep you.

Give gas hauling a try...You won't know until you do it. I started OTR and went to local tankers for about 15 years while my wife and I raised our family. Went back OTR (actually more regional) with Halvor lines a while back and am loving it. You won't know that you like...until you know what you like...give it a shot.
