It's not cheap keeping the OM happy.

Have you seen what the OM gets to eat?

Happy OM, Live to see the next day as the saying goes.

I have nothing to offer on the LS vs Schneider battle, other than...some folks may like certain things about those companies so they went there instead of the other. Could be things like certain freight, running lanes, extra pay for things, etc etc etc One could advise one interested in either company to talk with a good sampling of folks from both. Lots of threads on here about experiences with both. I'm sure there are plenty of drivers out there with both companies willing to chat a little if approached in the right manner.

Not everyone chooses a company based on pay. I know hard to believe but it's true.

Sirscrapntruckalot - It just tained. A lot.

There’s more to Life than driving a truck 24/7 and reinvesting into the same investment belief.

Landstar was great when I first started. When they have lots of freight is easy to make money. I had loads by my house and agent would say just drop your Landstar traileratrailer shipper and when you ready to leave you can have any load you want. It was great I get a two stop load to southern California and got good paying loads out of California go back east. When the economy stopped so in 2008 so did the loads. Now it was a struggle to find anything. Landstar does not have really any big and regular customer that they have regular runs with. When I was their is was more of one load customers.

Good example here, Landstar never had good freight out of Phoenix AZ. A agent got a new Pet Smart account. Pet Smart has DC in Phoenix. So the load board was flooded with crazy amount of loads. They paid like $1.76 per mile. That was pretty good money at that time. Landstar can't force driver to takes the loads. So most of the loads could not be covered. So the agent lost the account. It was back no load out of Phoenix again.

I new agent that has Kirby vacuum cleaners. They paid good money but only shipped a load like every 3 weeks. So it was almost impossible to get the load again. If he posted load on load board it was covered in 30 seconds.. the agent did not care who got the load.

I knew another agent he had furniture out of Mexico like couched. Going to small stores in USA. He tells you up front he will give you a load and see how you do. If you do good job he will give you more loads but you also have only haul his loads. So once empty you had find a load back to Laredo TX yourself. His loads had any wear from 6-12 stops it was hand unload. Once empty he would give like a week or little longer to find a load back to Laredo TX. If you did not come back for 2 or 3 weeks he would see not give more loads because he wanted you basically dessicated to him. I found his loads just took to long to get delivered because is was all mom and pop small stores. You parked in street in front of the store to hand unload a couches. No unloading docks.

This is pretty much why I’ve stayed a pumpkin and probably will until I retire. I’m not a great negotiator, but rather a “leave me alone” type. Wife has a good job and we have auxiliary income, so a few extra bucks (potentially) isn’t a big deal to me. I make enough to have a nice home, time off when I want, and flexibility to see family. I escrow money every week for downtime, plus fund a separate savings account.

My lease on my green machine ended yesterday, and the exit inspection yielded no issues, so I’ll be getting a nice chunk of change back from my maintenance account as well.

Plus, thanks to an ex-wife, a house we still own jointly, and her failure to make timely payments several times in 2019 without telling me, my ability to buy a nice truck at a good rate disappeared.

    But that’s life.
