When I was driving for Cliff we had 15 minute idle timers. Most of us could hang our 3 railers before the truck shut off. We rarely had to throw drag chains running 12 and 93 all the time.

If you’re organized how you hang them up and store them they go on a lot faster than if you’re starting with a tangled mess.

Short haul to the Mill, we would throw Iron 3-4 times a day. Set of 3 railers & a drag or steer depending. About 45 mins....

Mine was going over 70, sometimes throw them 4x in a day and a half round tripping between Denver and Grand Junction. Hated destroying them running miles of wet pavement with little actual snow/ ice.

Here in Alaska I have to take put them on and off up to five times a day from November through March Once you get the hang of it it’s super fast Many days the roads are in perfect shape but the side roads and the hills are solid ice and if you use them on the good pavement you just break them so we definitely get lots of practice

It all depends on what you are throwing chains on and what is legal.

4 single chains on the outside set of duals in a tandem axle, or two sets of doubles on 4 single wide tires.

Legally they are the same, and yet only chaining one axle with "two rail" chains on a wide tired axle isn't good enough. Somehow 2x2=4 and 4x1=4 have different meanings.

There were a few guys that had it down to a science. 2 sets of triples on in like 15 minutes.

Never really understood the point of single chains. Take just as long to put on, give half as much traction and are more likely than triples to come off. Heck the old man NEVER used bungies when he chained the drives. Never had one come off either.

I was wondering about this because I don’t have any chains and I’m not sure if you pick them up any time or if they issue them out just before winter
