I've seen tons of armadillos....dead on the highway. Never seen a live one.
As for cold, I used to work in a frozen food distribution center. 12 hour shifts in 40f coolers and 0f freezers, plus the blast freezer at -40f with a constant 25mph wind, capable of freezing whole pallets of meat solid in a matter of hours.
But, I like the cold. 30F is still shorts and hoodie weather for me. Below 20F if it's sunny and there's no wind.

Always was a tradition in the past to put a Lonestar longneck bottle next to or in the paws of the road kill ‘Dillos. You always carried emptys in the back of the pickup or trunk of car for those occasions.

I have kind of the same fear but with alligators and crocodiles in Florida. I stay clear of any ponds/lakes and I haven't seen any yet. I don't think I ever will. I doubt you'll ever see a snake either.

Thats another thing I'm worried about as well. We Canadians just aren't used to seeing these things, haha
And welcome aboard, fellow Canadian -
If you ever get out to the upper left hand corner of California, let me know.
We'll cook you up a mess of rattlesnake. Among some of my relatives they're considered a delicacy. The best way is to skewer them like shish-kebab with other meats and veggies and roast them over an open fire.86scotty, Brettj3876, SmallPackage and 2 others Thank this. -
Closest rest area to Miami on 93/i75 (alligator alley) has a lot of space to walk around, few feet above and back from the water. Can see lots of gaters swimming around. There is also an air boat company that operates out of the rest area if you wanna take a tour of the Florida Everglades.
Been to Florida tons of times and a few months ago when I stopped there was the first time I've seen them.

Lots of rattlesnakes in Amarillo near the TA truck stop. They'll go under your truck to find a shady spot.

Snakes are pretty much everywhere except Antarctica. Its not just Texas lol. There's rattlesnakes in Canada, the massasauga. Just southern Ontario, but still... you just have to be careful. But most truck stops, customers, etc are too busy unless you're really out in the boonies. If you hate snakes stay away from Australia, 9 of the 10 deadliest are there.

lol...with a lowest temperature ever recorded of -15C in the Aleutians? surely you jest...
