I think you'll are right. Im just going to bite the bullet and do the oil cooler and ill do the oil test too. The oil psi does drop a little but only by a few psi. Normally run at 56psi. It doesnt go below 50psi. The oil leaks i have are small. The oil pan has 2 leaks. Rear edges are cracked. Apparently a common issue on the 3406e. And tgen a small one on driver side of motor somewhere

I know @rank doesn't hang out here much anymore but IIRC he had a 3406B he chased high oil temps with and I seem to recall when he pulled the oil cooler, it was face plugged with debris (I want to say silicone?) It was restricting coolant flow into the cooler, causing the oil to run hot.

Ive seen silicone and debris on the face of the oil cooler causing high temps. Cummins oil coolers will foul as well causing high oil temps

Usually from too much being used during a repair. It breaks off and floats thru the system. Or when a rebuild is done and excess silicone/gasket debris ends up getting scraped/buffed off by a mechanic and gets into a coolant passage.
