With sleepers we can log sleeper birth during unloading or loading, which is pretty much off duty. I’ve talked to local guys at the same company in day cabs, and they have to stay on duty even if they’re just swinging the doors open and sitting.

That would be a company policy. If they aren't assisting with the load / unload then they can legally log off duty.Blue Zombie Trucker Thanks this.

Dot has no legal right to look at your “computer”. You have to make available at request your log either on paper or by fax/email (electronically). I have a printer and print my log off at the end of each day. Put in a binder. I get stopped, that’s what mr dot gets. Perfectly legal.

With AOBR and electronic logs (phone app, but connected to the truck) you are correct. For ELD's you are wrong. They can look at the device if they want. Or transfered in one of several approved methods. (Bluetooth, USB, web gateway, etc.)Long FLD and Dockbumper Thank this.

As far as I know, an AOBR isn’t even legal anymore. Full eld mandate. In the USA anyways. Not being argumentative, but I’ve been through this. With both roadside inspection and company audit. Dot has no legal right to inspect “computer” or satellite records without a warrant. Unless the company just gives it up. Which most Megas will do to save face and hang the driver out to dry. Happened to me. Fought it. And won. No warrant, no looking.Blue Zombie Trucker Thanks this.

You MUST provide 8 days RODS upon request. In the case of an ELD, ERODS. It is the law. Every ELD has a function to email those ERODS to Law Enforcement. No different than the "old days" of paper logs. 8 DAYS.Blue Zombie Trucker Thanks this.

I'm on my phone, but I'll try and remember to post the regs that allow it in the morning. As for AOBR it can still be used in place of paper logs. One must quilify for paper though so very few actually can.
-
Care to show me the regs on that? Pretty sure you’ll find printed on paper or electronically will suffice. I will admit, I’m Canadian, and in Canada either will fulfill legal requirements. Also in Canada, it’s 14 days. Not 8.
In fact, an officer cannot refuse a printed copy of ERODS. Perfectly legal. -
That is EXACTLY what I posted! 8 days of ERODS (Electronic Record of Duty Status) or if on paper RODS (Record of duty Status). I doubt many drivers have the means to print their own 8 days of logs on their truck. That is why Elogs have the SPECIFIC FUNCTION to email/fax those records to Law Enforcement.aaronpeterbilt3787 Thanks this.

Misunderstood your post. The way I read it I thought you were implying if you’re on eld you must provide logs electronically.
