It was a great job in my 20’s. I wouldn’t want to do it now but could if I had to.okiedokie Thanks this.
-
Are you still driving?
-
Yes I am still working. I am only in my 50’s and plan to work many more years. (Fortunately my choice) I may switch to part time in a few years, but don’t really want to retire at this time. That is one luxury of owning my rig and leasing to my carrier, they will let me work as much or little as I like. I started trucking early in life, 21 to be exact is when I hired in at CF and it seems like just yesterday.

You've positioned yourself well. Retirement isn't all it's cracked up to be, at least for some of us. I'm a retired teamster/pipeliner doing 2 days a week pulling a local tub. Don't really need the money but like climbing in the cab of that Pete for a few hrs. Run it cool driver.

Blue jeans, Mike2633, speedyk and 3 others Thank this. -
I've been at it for almost 16 years now. Our top man is 71, IIRC. He's a linehaul driver though. We have peddle hands in their 60's.
I'd take this over food service any day. THAT is @okiedokie 's young man's game, IMHO.Last edited: Sep 19, 2020

I have worked with a few 70 year olds hauling cars who were still hitting it hard and liked their job. As long as I like going to work I probably will.

I guess that makes delivering produce a middle-aged man's game. Our oldest guy is 62 and was just named as Chick-Fil-A's National Driver of the Year.

Here’s a different type of truck...
Moving van pups used by Reliable Van & Storage Co in the NY/NJ area. A friend of mine sent me this after he moved out of NYC. Interestingly enough, they did not use a pup for the move out. They used a straight truck and then reloaded it into a pup at their warehouse.Blue jeans, alds, Mike2633 and 5 others Thank this. -
This was legit, so much good information, I learned a few things I didn't know before!Mike2633 Thanks this.
