Regarding Shipex, I don't understand why it's forced per diem. It should be up to the driver.
And it's a good chunk of salary as well- something like 20%.
The owner must think he's a smart guy not disclosing this to new driver. But guess what, word gets around and he's actually just shooting himself in the foot.

Guess what, if you thought through the numbers, you would realize the owner is doing you a favour. As long as your not being charged for having per diem.

Was the same at Southern Refrigerated Transport when I started there. You could opt out after 90 days.Trucker61016 Thanks this.

This company forces their driver to go 550-700/ miles a day even when fatigued. That right there is a DOT violation. Fatigued driving in a commercial vehicle is illegal. That will get you OOS real fast plus you will get slapped with 30 CSA points.
Then to show how they rip drivers off...I already mentioned the per diem. But let's say you drive 600 miles/ day. At 50 cents a mile that would be $300/day.
A 6 day workweek would put you at $1800. Shipex only pays $1154.
So every week they are stealing $650 per driver. 350 times $650 and you see how they can afford those new trucks and satellite radio.
Most drivers only last 3-5 months. There is hardly any longevity at this company. Look at some of the youtube videos. Guys come in there gung ho saying this is the best company ever etc...Then 3 months later they are looking for another job.
All the information has been supplied above. At this point I ask the moderators to please close this thread.
Thank you.Trucker61016 Thanks this. -
Per Diem has nothing to do with it. It's your agreeing to that guaranteed pay rate. No deception there by the company. Plus you failed to mention the bonus money your paid when you exceed a certain level of miles. But I do agree that it's probably a bad arrangement on driver pay due to the reason you outlined. Conflict between driver fatigue and company needed miles from you in order to get their return on the investment of guaranteed pay. Looks bad. Still, if you can't run 550-700 miles a day and stay fresh with rest, your probably in the wrong business. Meanwhile drivers at other companies are screaming for miles. Maybe you should go work for one of those companies and let those that want to run to Shipex.
