I believe that's now Cowboy Burgers and BBQ. Can spend 10 bucks eating or pay 10 bucks to park. No fuel or anything just a huge burger joint with tons of truck parking. Foods darn good and they give you alot of it. Or did when I happened upon the place a year or so back. If anyone has to stay in fontana it sure beats the big twin truckstops.
Its at 11673 S Etiwanda Ave.
Might need to consider changing the name of this thread to "truck stops 35 years ago" talk about a classic lol

There were a number of good stops back in the day. Most of them are gone now. History.

I can't confirm but right before Christmas i made a run down 85 outta Virginia into north Carolina and it looked like the old Chex truck stop was shuttered, even had the cat scale sign pulled down.

Sadly "truck stops" are going the way of the Bobby socks, poodle skirts, and high buckle shoes. A truck stop where you pulled up and an attendant would pump your fuel, check your fluids, and so forth. A truck stop where you only seen trucks, not recreational reptiles, and every type of motoring public with their own designated parking lot. Thus, the corporate big wigs have lost sight to the true meaning of a truckstop, and those that keep them in business many moons ago. Now corporate greed, deep pockets, and such has seen the change to the travel plaza (i;e every joe smoe with money, and who can afford our over priced items welcome in).

If you ever look at the parcel record for the land stations are on these days you'll see some really sketchy stuff.. None of it's domestically owned it's some oblivious citizen usually from another state who is basically a surrogate for foreign investors...
None of that quality of life stuff matters anymore just like with planned developments and track housing going up everywhere...
I was born in '80 and all those places were still around and doing good business across the continent, so whatever happened did so in the late eighties or early nineties.. -
The one in Ohio you speak of is in Mendon. It's called the Motor Inn and is one of the few truck stops I know of that you can get game like rabbit and quail on the menu.

If they were so good why did they go out of business? If the place is actually a good truck stop then they’d be able to stay in business.
The fact is they either sold out to the corporate truck stops or they weren’t that good to begin with and when a better truck stop came along it put them out of business. -
What's left unsaid is that truckers follow their dollars. A little mom and pop can have the best table service in the world but if it's not a 6.99 all you can eat with free parking and a backrub from the waitress it's a huge ripoff, and Subway gets the visit next time.
The mourning is hypocritical.CosmoK12 Thanks this.
